New ph 2 grill dilemma I need everyone's input

please don't just scan over this

yes another thread but needs must. I need peoples opinions on this problem as its stalling the whole
lot, once there is a few ideas maybe a poll can be created and an announcement made?

with the reproduction grille he can make it all but as the lower mounting tab is of a poor design, (think how many oe grilles are broken here)
this is the push in fitting either side of the rad not the top 3 bolts or the bits behind the indicators,

he can make them like they are but is fairly certain they will break, the way they always do,

no what I want to do is to get every ones opinion of how to do it!

Try to be clear as I'll be showing him this!
drawing or the like no matter how basic would be brilliant

    Photobucket link doesn't work.

I made some ph1 grilles with a guy in Spain and had those bits made solid so they pine through then you can drill them and put a split pin behind the slam panel to hold it in tight and securely.

As someone who takes my car apart on a regular basis the easier they are to remove the better, more often than not that's when they break, the split pin idea gets my vote for the reason above

Providing it is easy to remove, I would imagine that the split pin would be quicker and easier to get to than a nut/bolt.

Perhaps some sort of ally shining quick release fitting for the engine bay tarts

Yes, although that one the stud that goes into the solid bit of grill might not be to easy to get in as its got a domed head, unless it would be cast around the stud?

I would be inclined to just leave this so that it just butts up to the front panel. Make it the purchasers problem to worry about that minor fixing issue. It's only going to cause delays. Should also reduce the time it takes and labour to produce these.

These grills are not OE and if you look at the aftermarket open mouth grills they don't even use this as a fixing point at all.

Not only that there is another fixing point at the bottom middle of the standard grills that most probably have never seen that sits on the raised lip on the bumper.

    Just my thought.

Re: New ph 2 grill dilemma I need everyone's input

Some good points being raised exactly what's needed with something like this. If people are prepared to sort out these two fixing points themselves then yes probably much better for the time it takes to make. For the price personally I would want one that I can just spray and fit.

I see what your saying about the fixing points.

I shall give you a recount of what happened to one of my grills around 6/7 years ago. It was an rgm grill and after not being fixed or clipped in by the two points in question. I was rather over excited when pulling away from a set of lights the front end of the car kind of bounced to get grip. The top mounting point snapped (it was only on with one) the grill came off and went under the car, it wasn't destroyed but wasn't in great shape

It wouldn't be the end of the world if the two fixing points needed sorting, after all this is a chance to make what is effectively rocking horse **** available again even if it's just a limited run it's still a turn up for the books.

Why not just use a tapered pin that goes into a rubber pocket?

    Somthing like this

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cavity-Fix...item53e7c25b92

Then you just need the pin bonding on to the grill both sides (same as chris has shown in his pic, but with a tapered pin instead of the thread)..

Or could you not just use something like this?

Re: New ph 2 grill dilemma I need everyone's input

Will they come with any guarantee or warranty?

Would be good to get one to test fit and use before having a run of them done to see if they break like the OE ones on the lower slat at a certain speed.

Speed doesnt break the bottom of the grill (mine has seen 130 a fair few times ) its usually a combination of rough removal, brittle plastic etc

Did Renault provide a warranty/guarantee I doubt it. Not worth worrying about either.
