so you use a normal img tag with square brackets around it, then to close use a slash then the img tag inside square brackets. Scroll to the bottom of the page when posting and click on the bbcode link for help.
alternatively, you see the little picture icon on the toolbar... click it, and paste your url in. then it does it all for you; eg;

The best way to insert a picture that you want to keep on the site (project pages, etc) is to insert the images into a message. Next time you type a message, scroll down a bit more and you'll see a button saying "Upload pictures or files".
Using photobucket is a pain in the arse because
a) the pictures don't stay there for ever.
b) it's slow
c) this site cannot limit the size of the image, so if someone uploads 10 8M pixel images into a thread you'll be there all day waiting for the page to load.
so if it's a picture you want to keep, upload it to this site. random one off things are not as important ofcourse
ah, i might redo my rebuild archives as youve just mentioned rather than using the photobucket link. at least this way they be on the site as the photobucket link could be broken at anytime.
