    Re: Introducing 'ETHEL'

Quite a good day on Ethel today.

    Handbrake is now sorted
    Drive shafts fitted
Engine mainly wired up and close to the point of running
Gearbox is full of oil now for the first time in over 10 years and it felt like it took ten years to fill through the small breather on the top.

Again a huge thanks to dan (R5beatty) for all his help and thanks to Chris, without his constant whinging and moaning, I'd've been tempted to grumble myself

Well done your getting closer now, why didn't you fill the gearbox through the nut at the front

Do you ever have one of those moments where something stupid seems to make perfect sense at the time?

Thanks Matt, I had to get the trims from cgb as I couldn't get hold of mike at the time

    Re: Introducing 'ETHEL'

Had a brilliant day on Ethel today

Coilovers fitted up (modelled by dan )

but mad camber on the front. Probably because it's too low but it is all phase 1 set up which I think is meant to have more camber anyway.

    New wishbones fitted

Fuel sender and uprated pump fitted

And best of all, the engine fired straight up first time and sounds real nice. The carb is going to want some fettling to get rid of a slight miss on the uptake of throttle and to get a nice, even, low tickover but it's all good

    http://youtu.be/z4UxdqtHJYg

Once again, insane thanks to all involved

    Re: Introducing 'ETHEL'

Sorry to burst your bubble mate but I can see why you got mad camber

You have phase 2 shocks with phase 1 top mounts

    Engine sounds good too!

    Bugger

I bought them as suspected phase 1 coilovers from matt@codered.

Guess I'll have to swap for phase 2 top mounts and run it as phase 2 spec. Will it just be the top mount that wants swapping mark?

As for engine, yeah it sounds sweet mate. Thanks for doing the rebuild mate, should hopefully prove to be a nice reliable motor

    Re: Introducing 'ETHEL'

You can tell they are phase 2 as the bolt holes are angled compared to the body of the shock, phase 1 sit parallel

Yeah you can just swap the top mounting plate or if you want to keep it phase 1 I know of some phase 1 coilovers for sale

A well deserved promotion dan I might have to put Chris on a final written warning though for being a massive bender.

    Parts:

Markey Mark has sent bits so they should be there soon
Rear calipers, I've still to send these
Steering rack, I'll have to ring mike on Monday.

    Thanks again fellas

    Re: Introducing 'ETHEL'

Time for more pics as the car nears the end of its resto.

Just a quick one of the scorpion fitted up the other week.

Today was all about lowering the arse end and trial fitting of the refurbed cup wheels.

As per usual I wasn't around to laugh at Chris struggling and swearing which is a great shame as it's usually piss funny watching him suffer

Ignore the gap on the front bumper as it's not properly fitted here, just on for the purpose of the photo.

If you look closely you can just about see the lesser spotted 'R5beatty' in its natural habitat.... Stood around swearing

    Can't thank these guys enough.

Mot as soon as it's home and hopefully down to national day in her

The smoked ones are broken there just there so I could line everything up. Ross is sorting some orange ones for the front to match the side ones.

    Thanks guys.

Yeah orange indicators are going to be ordered this week. Chris just lent me those as my originals were knackered.

Next step after it's all legal is to move on to the interior. It's all complete now but I'm going to have the bolsters replaced and the black outer cloth replaced too. Does anyone know if the black cloth is still available anywhere or is it a case of just trying to find a close match?

    Another small update for you.

Got a spare hour today so did a few little jobs on Ethel.

Fitted the genuine renault bumper strips, new indicators and a used gearstick surround.

Nothing groundbreaking but it all adds up.
