    Anyone here in police??

Just applied for a job that will have me working on a contract for w yorks police servicing and maintaining heating and a/c, and have had to fill a really strict vetting questionnaire in, giving all names and addresses of my mother and father, wifes mother and father, and our brothers and sisters,

Now problem is, they ask do you know or have reason to believe that your friends or relatives have any criminal convictions? well yes I do know, by brothers been arrested a few times for breach of the peace, and my dad for drink driving, and although im squeaky clean it kind of makes me look like i come from a family of chavs!!

So do I declare this? will it go against me? i don't want to miss out on a good job just cos my brother and father cant handle there beer!

On the other hand, if i never spoke to them i might not know there was anything to declare?

    thoughts please!!!

Declare it mate, they won't care, breach of the peace is trivial and other peoples driving offences are not really really counted with regards to a job. They're more worried about families of bank robbers, terrorists and anyone who might want to manipulate you given the job you are in..... good luck with the application btw!

Declare it. The vetting will probably go through Disclosure Scotland who vet all the military, Nuclear Industry, government workers etc. They aren't concerned with minor things, only links to terrorism, gangs and organised crime etc - or if you yourself have been imprisoned in the past for something like fraud or deception.

Very large rear spoilers, side skirts and front splitters are frowned upon....

They will work it out when you rock up 15 mins late covered in oil, grease, missing skin to knuckles and swearing.

Put it down. I'm not a copper but had to get the same pass when I was a locksmith to do the cell locks prisons and any probs in there offices and section houses. Another bloke from the same company missed out something trivial and they found out about it and he never got a pass.

    Re: Anyone here in police??

    thanks for the reply's,

ok, I will declare them then

But talking to my old man last night and he reckons my brother wont actually have any convictions as he was never convicted of anything as he never went to court, he just got arrested and released next day so he will have a record but that's it,

think I will try and ring them about this, is the number 999?

    Definitely declare everything.

I work in the security industry, similar vetting process as we access prisons, military bases, police stations ect

We had a guy lose his job after he'd been working with us for 6 months as he lied on his application. It was as simply as he said he quit a job 3 years ago, after contacting the employer, turns out he was sacked.

Put it down, they will find out

Brothers been in the nick a few times, I have a criminal record. I work for Thales and BAE on stuff that you dont talk about and have for 7 years. Certainly tell them but dont be worried they are quite flexible, unless its terrorism then your up the creek.

Yeah tell them mate I lost a job for lying but I don't think I would of got if I told them so I took the risk and 6 months later bang pulled on the office and was sacked just for some stupidity at 18 years old came back to hunt me years later.

Like a few others i have also had to fill out similar forms.

Put it down they won't hold it against you. they ask so many questions so that when working you are not put in a position where you can be blackmailed into supplying info.
