Hi mate, great work I would go on Powerflex website and check inner anti roll bar bush variations. Think you have the 'D' shaped ones that I fitted to mine. All pics/ part no.s on there, I actually have a spare pair of Powerflex inners that may fit

That pillar badge is from a mark 1 clio 1.8 16v and was linked to the interior in the car.

Keep up the good work mate. As for body work all bare metal wants a good coat of a high quality etch primer or epoxy primer. Filler work will then take place. Anywhere that's been rubbed through to metal during filler will need re etch or epoxy priming followed by a high quality high build primer. Going for a super straight panel I'd use a polyester spray filler before high build priming but. Each to there own. Any info or tips just send me a message I'll help all a can

Not yet sorry we are waiting until its back on 4 wheels before doing the roof as its too high to work on being on the stand.

What is the best way of painting the bodykit? I have had to do a repair on one arch so have lost the factory dimple effect.Should I rub the kit down then etch, high build, paint?

    Thanks

Re: Project it will never happen R5 GTT

Ok another quick update for you all!

After CGB sent me the wrong size steering U.J and mike at gt spairs was having email problems I sourced one from GSF ebay page which I am hoping is good quality as it wont be fun to get to with the engine in.This should sort the sloppy steering out as the original was goosed.

Steering rack painted with industrial quality paint and new gaiters fitted with lots of fresh grease in

Finally managed to source the correct size inner anti rollbar bushes so got some good quality powerflex black editions in 21mm/33mm

I got some new disks with a job lot of parts so popped them on along with new wheel bearings.Just need track rods and ball joints and shes back to a rolling shell

Took the dash out last week which took half a day and my dad doing lots of swearing and tool throwing in my direction. We where hoping to gain access to some rott above the battery tray but their is another shape inside so will have to find another way.Anyways its a good excuse to tidy the wiring up

Ive somehow managed to lose the bolts off this and cant remember which way it goes but will try and find a pic

Finally a pic of my mates phase 1 beast which is running a gt255 turbo and 2.5" exhaust with a cam,4 branch, methanol injection and a few other bits

Last of all my mates new vauxhall zetec project and an audi he is fixing.Thought I would add this as pictures of rust and renaults can get boring after a while cant they?

Will check mine out and stick a new one in when I get time. Not done a lot recently with having man flu.I enjoyed the french car show a few weeks ago and has spurred me on to get the job done for next year

More high build primer and local etch repairs.Very time consuming and annoying but should save money on the final paintjob at the bodyshop and stop them doing any sort of botch

We managed to break the windscreen getting it out with the puller tool we had so then used welding wire with gloves on which worked well cuttimg through the sealant in a saw movement. The screen had weld burns on it anyways and managed to get another lined up locally. As you can see their
has been some welding needed.I also used rust killer then rust converter after grinding off the bulk of it

Track rods and bottom ball joints fitted using moog parts

Floor fully degreased then rust converted and tetrosealed

Screen surround repaired and left to soak for 48hours in deox C rust remover

Floor sound deadening removed and seat rails derust treated then ready for a coat of converter and sealant

Sideskirts where cracked, broken tabs etc but my dads done a great job of getting them looking good.We are high building them to get rid of the factory dimple effect

The weapon of choice for applying the basecost so the car csn sit protected until the engine is built and I can afford to get a bodyshop to paint. We where going to do a home d.i.y paintjob because my dad is good at spraying but I think a booth will be better as less dust and lamps to bake on the paint.

Re: Project it will never happen R5 GTT

Almost got half the car dent free and painted in high build primer

Front calipers cleaned with dremel then treat with rust remover and painted with rustoleum paint. No splits in the rubbers all freed up and greased. One of the carriers I got for free off a friend was bent but luckily had anothet spair. My braided lines catch on the body slightly which im hoping wont be an MOT failure if I wrap the part that touches in a protective sleeve?

The car that started my renault illness is below. if only I had been bought a well made toy car as a child instead of a french supermini with sills as strong as autumn leaves

Thanks for looking and keep the 5's alive

I got them from cgb they where cheap but the quality is great I need one or them plastic things that fits over the braided line to stop it rubbing on the inner arch just like the standard type bit.

Test fitting the kit on one side and got the glass out the tailgate with all the rust around the frame destroyed with a grinder and rust treatment.Just need to prep the bumpers, bonnet, rear drivers quarter panel, drivers door then its time for the big job....The roof swap

After this the car will go into storage until the engine is built and I can afford a respray.Im still not sure on the colour I keep thinking of wild ideas then going back to standard tungsten grey.

Im pleased with how the kit fits considering their was nothing left of the sills my dads done a good job especially with him not doing major restoration work since about when I was born

    Thanks for looking, Luke

I agree red and orange looks well.My friends are doing this spray vinyl stuff but it looks patchy and easily marks and I can get a solid colour cheap paintjob easily enough but I fancy a pearl/metallic.I need to decide soon so I can paint all the door shuts etc before it goes to the bodyshop

Very impressive. But you'll need a campus internal light as turbo one won't fit that roof lining.

Thanks again for the good feedback.I'm hoping to be starting a new job soon working night shifts soon which I hope won't slow the project down too much but will hopefully mean more money to fund it.

We got the roof plug welded on and then etched so another day or two and the car is ready to be stored until it gets painted.I will write a roof skin swap guide when I get time and take some photos. It's not as hard as I thought we managed to separate the frame from the old cars roof and fit it to my car in 2days.

More underseal is needed underneath where the metal stand was covering.I'm still not decided on the colour or engine spec I will just be happy having it all back together and not wasting weekends working on it :-)

Clamping the roof before every plug weld to keep the roof fitment tight.I didn't realise my phone was on dual capture but my face tells the story of the day.

Welds ground flat and filler used where needed to keep beat but the plastic trim hides everything anyway

The poor car we took the roof off which is now being cubed and some parts kept as spairs for my mates 172 engined phase 1 GTT

My friend is doing some work on a DAX beast in the same unit he lets me work on my car

Nice work on the roof swap. It's coming along nicely. Love the five spoke wheels too.

I also love the trick Camber Correction geometry that those DAXs use.

Re: Project it will never happen R5 GTT

Thanks yeah it's not gonna be a minter but it should last a while without any further rust attacks hopefully. However I plan to replace the doors, wings, front bumper and grille for better condition ones that dont contain filler eventually but for now the repaired ones will do to stay in budget

My colour choice went from white to liquid yellow then decided on original tungsten grey, repsol escort cosworth colours. Also I decided the car was getting vinyl wrapped but now that plan is out the window.I have an old evo magazine that I seen my current favourite colour polished up in..I just hope I can make my mind up.This green would go well with some parts in Honda pirates black?

    Salt IS biological isn't it?

Do you mean a natural, abundant, cheap, non slippery, non-corrosive to metal alternative? That would really be useful!

Yes got new headlights a few years back after a light crash.I was suprised to learn they where glass.

I agree about the Salt also I will absoloute cake under the bodykit with wazoyl to make sure it stays rott free.

My mothers XR3i 1989 needs needs quite a few jobs done so the old man is doing that until next year.Once the escort jobs are done we can start building the Renault engine on the engine stand in the nice heated garage :-)

I've recently took a job at a popular supermarket as a nightshift manager and it wasn't the best move with me not having many weekends off or social life.Plus it has stopped me planning what days we can work on the car as rotors aren't that far ahead :-(

I've recently took a job at a popular supermarket as a nightshift manager and it wasn't the best move with me not having many weekends off or social life.Plus it has stopped me planning what days we can work on the car as rotors aren't that far ahead :-(
New headlights are a great purchase. I have some in my mountain of spares ready to eventually put on.

Not being able to plan days to work on the 5 is tough but stick with it it's looking great so far. Enjoy reading this thread.

And get that guide written up for changing the roof skin. I am rubbish with welding/bodywork so something is always a great help!
