    Project revive the 5

    First post!

    Hello everyone
New on the forum although I think I was a member along time ago.
I have owned this 1991 H reg whitey since 1996. Just dragged it out of storage .
Problems started in 1998 with overheating which turned out to be a pinhole leak on the inlet manifold. Naturally I removed the manifold and replaced the thin hosetails with industrial ones. On refitting one of the manifold studs broke so was a head off job. Took head off and put all new studs in , renewed stem seals ,lapped valves in . Give the head a good clean and polished combustion chambers . Was going to skim head but when clocked up on milling machine found it was fine.
Fitted carb rebuild kit and put it all back together with a gt tuning head gasket and head bolts.
Low and behold I still had combustion gasses in water grrrr. So into storage it went.
I could bore you with the storage nightmares but that would take all day to tell.

Main thing is she's back and I'm slowly working on rebuilding her. This ones deffo a she lol as she was ok atfirst and then got very tempremental haha.

Engine is in my garage stripped and being cleaned for paint.
Luckily i happened to bump into Sparkie from here who pointed me in the right direction for new engine internals. Big Ty Sparkie (top guy)

Limited funds means this may take a while but I'm determined to get my 5 back to its former glory.
Going to soak up as much info as I can from forum now and find my way around.
    Nice to meet you all

    Regards NRG aka Nigel.

Dare say a few gt turbos have looked like this pic before lol.

Worse Phil it was 5 years and one month old when I got it from a car dealer and Renault owned it before him. Has 4 previous owners on log book

To be fair on the old girl she got hammered by me. So guess I owe it to her. I couldn't get rid so stored her.
What seems a lifetime later I now have the know how to do things and with my engineering backround thy shall be done.

Big thanks to Mike for parts (number one on speed dial lol) especially for my new bracket set I've been waiting for

Ok so tried to get waterpump off head today.
Damn thing was almost welded on. 2 bolts broke in the head grrrr . Managed to get one out but the other one is going to need work.

Also does anyone have any of these spare

    ?
Its the retaining bolts that go into chassis for intercooler bottom bracket.

Small update of a busy weekend cleaning.
    This is before

This is how the block sits right now.

Always wanted my engine that clean. Looks like I need to make a list of bolts and visit my local fasteners place.

Finally managed to spend some time on the engine build. Lots of cleaning and cleaning again .

Fitted liners ,piston rings , crank seal/bottom end seal set. Cleaned all head faces , pushrods and followers. Fitted new blue seal head gasket with 12.9 headbolts. Cleaned all threads out with taps . Set head bolts to 45 ftlb and set tappets. Checked tappets 3 times lol to be sure.

Sure hope I got this all right as its a first rebuild. Please feel free to say if I've done anything wrong.

Are ngk B8evx plugs ok ?

    Thankyou Tony.

Probably is lol as from new the block only had a mist of paint on it.
Unsure about what bolts to use now. Do I go original hex heads or more up to date cap heads :/ ?
