changing water pump

I had a bolt leaking on my waterpump so thought rather than tighten it up id take the pump off and reaseal it as its been on there years.
Obviously one of the bolts snapped. so i ended up having to drill down the centre of the remainder bolt and retap it.

90 degree drill head was ace couldnt of done it without it. I also cleaned the other threads out with the tap and couldnt believe the crap that came out. If i hadn't done that then the bolts may of bottomed out on the crap and not tightened up correctly.

Ive also had a niggling feeling that my cam timming was slightly too advanced. Without the waterpump on made the adjustment all too tempting, i couldnt believe how much easier it was lol
So its now been retarded 2degrees.
And as soon as id started working on it, the rain also started pouring.... typical.

Also cleaned the pump up a bit before refitting.

I bought a 90 degree angle drill adapter a few months back thinking I prob won't use it that much, I've used it for so many jobs it's unreal, It even came in handy the other week to screw fixings into a wardrobe cornicing because there was no room to fit drill between ceiling and the wardrobe. Well worth the 20 ish I paid.
I'm surprised you haven't invested in one of those special access timing chain covers

i did mine when i had the head off for the second head gasket! Had 3 snapped bolts and all that was holding it on was a nasty mix of silicon and hylomar. now has shiny helicoils, fresh gaskets and no leaks

the pro's know exactly where to time there cams in at on a certain grinds

lol each time ive adjusted ive thought... no point getting a timing access cover as thats the last bloody time im doing it...... then i did it again...... then i did it again and again and again lol.... this really really is the last time now, i only did it as it was so easy to access with the pump off, i was pleased with the results where it was but i knew it wasnt quite there at the top end 6500>7000rpm and the dyno showed this abit too.

Do it once and do it right i allways say...... altho this timing lark has perhaps ruined my reputation for that lol.

And yeah i think i will invest in a 90degree adapter it really was a life saver and really smooth i was expecting it to be crap
