Have you got a link to the megasquirt you have? Is the your base map something you did yourself on a laptop? Not really in touch with standalone ecu's thats a shame i hope he can do mine when the time comes. what power you hoping for?

    Re: Guesstimation

standard ecu and a bypass hole? You can get good power with std ecu's but I couldn't get mine to fuel right all of The time. The bypass hole is to trick the maf so it thinks the enginebis getting less air than it actualy is until the maf hits 5v then it makes no difference. I had mine like this for a year or so and it really went well, you can allways upgrade to standalone at a later date anyway.

    Re: Guesstimation

Schwartz, whats the purpose of the bypass hole? giving the engine more air than is meterd would surely make it run a little leaner wouldnt it?

As far as i can remember, mine doesnt have a bypass hole.

    Re: Guesstimation

If you're using std injectors or Volvo green ones you don't need a bypass hole but prob will only fuel for 1bar on a big blower. When using t5 orange or Saab reds (what I have) it will be way too rich off boost so the bypass hole leans it out until the maf sees to much air and dosnt make anymore changes anyway then you lean it out with more boost mine was still in the 10's at nearly 2bar boost and a megasquirt came up cheap so I went for it

So I could use a gt28 and Saab reds on standard ecu and make 1bar with what size bypass hole?

    Re: Guesstimation

Running standard ecu and as Schwartz says it's quite a simple job to gain good power, going to look into standalone next to get better results as scoff said it was still making power up to the standard ecu limiter

I think the magic number is 32mm bypass hole but I just kept trimming it until my afr readings were good all round.. a little tweak of the atm is normally required aswel but is an easy job, haz is a good bloke to speak to regarding these engines

    Re: Guesstimation

Oh ok I'm just buying a engine of mark so it may be better going standalone straight away. What can these engine rev to on mega squirt?

    Re: Guesstimation

I was running 1.8 bar most of the time with Saab reds 32mm hole is normally about right then turn the maf to 650ohms iirc using the brass screw under the cap and a multi meter on the two outer pins to read it.

    Re: Guesstimation

I have set mine to 7000rpm limit at the moment to be safe as its not mapped yet but the bottom ends are solid I would speak to mark but 8k would probably be fine.

    Re: Guesstimation

What were you making before you went standalone? That's really good could there be room for a turbo bigger than a gt28 with a 8k limit?

    Re: Guesstimation

Never had it rolling roaded but it was quick. I have a 2860 with the larger .86 rear basicly a ball bearing version of a pulsar turbo I get full boost by 4k so much bigger prob wouldn't be good for the road.
