project raider restore ( lots of parts up for grabs )

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

    hi all

used to be on here years ago when i had an r5 which looked like this

after that had a load of cars like evos, s4's a6's and sensible cars (the wife made me do it) then 4 years ago bought a buggered ax gt and rebuilt it from the ground up
it ended up looking like this and is tucked up in my shed

so now its finished i wanted to get another project . i love my french hatchs and r5's are very rare in northern ireland , this came up on gumtree so i had to have it

its a raider but has been tastfully ruined
on the plus side it has a 205 bhp volvo engine with alot of money spent on it
ill be putting it back to standard looks and have just bought a set of clio turbine alloys for it
plans are fix all rust strip all kit off and replace with standard stuff and a full respray in raider blue
try and source a set of raider seats and door cards . i still have the black carpet
it will get new coilover suspension and fully rebuilt suspension and brakes
if anyone knows this car and can provide me with some info as the last owner lost the folder od paperwork that was with it

Nice project! Bodywork will probably be your main issue or you could be extremely lucky.....

B18FT engines are great and with 205bhp you wont be short on smiles!

    Re: project raider restore

ordered alot of stuff . its not all arrived yet but this is part of it
    genuine steering wheel
genuine mint condition leather gear gaiter
    rear badges
two front seats which will be used to make one good one with raider material
    2 x new headlights
    set of new clear indicators
    battery cover
    full set of engine rubbers
    two mint roof rails
    2 rear quarter plastics
    two mint doors
    full lock set
    rear bootlid in perfect condition
    two mint wings
    battery tray in good condition
    1 x raider headrest
    1 raider rear bench
set of clio turbines with centre caps

still waiting on standard rear bumper and spoiler arriving
also a mint raider full rear seat another raider headrest a mint raider passenger seat and the material for the top part of a raider seat and a set of locking bolts for the alloys caps

now if i can get a standard front bumper and grill then all the replacement sills etc when mike gets back to me ill be ready to rock .
as above if anyone can sell me the raider material from the bottom part of the seat that would be great . i bought the spare rear bench thinking i could use the material for the drivers seat but it aint gonna work .

The new seats look mint! Were they from gt turbo spares?

If you have some spares seat parts after repairing your raider seat, I know someone after a few missing or broken parts.

Raider seats look excellent, just the drivers seat base to source, good find! Great feeling when all the parts start to come together, reminds me of the full set of raider seats I bought for £100 in 2006 lol

    Re: project raider restore

    A bit more progress
Sanded off all the isopon and bonding stuff that had been used to attach and smooth in the 3 piece spoiler
I took it right down to the bare metal then gave it a lick of primer to protect it till im ready to work at it again

My mint original rear bumper and spoiler arrived

I took the fuel tanks and exhaust off the car and started stripping the rear interior out

Then today i loaded her up and took it to get all the rot cut out and repaired and two new sills fitted

The next job to do is fix the petrol tank
The tanks not that old cos the receipt for its in the paperwork folder but they are notorious for leaking at the yellow bung and this ones no different . God knows why it even has it

So i cleaned it all up with thinners then used a solder to melt the join and fold it over to seal it
After that sanded it to give it a bit of roughness .

My mate has some seriously strong black glue stuff he uses so gonna give it a good covering with that and hopefully will be problem sorted

    Re: project raider restore

I was lucky enough to find a fella on ebay selling raider cloth for the top and bottom of the seat . I had previously bought two normal front gt seats that had really good frames but were in bad condition . I took them to arek interiors last saturday and got an email thursday to say come and collect it

    From this

    To this

    Massively impressed with their work

Front seats were 40 quid each for the material and frame
£32 for the two new bolsters
Top material section was 40 quid and the bottom piece was 30
Arek charged 100 quid for making it
So my drivers seat was £282 but its like a brand new raider seat so happy enough with that

Excellent progress, great to see it all solid now. Did the guy who did the welding not prime the newly welded parts? Raider seats look as good as new!

i got mine off ebay and they were about half an inch too big but the trimmers shaved a bit off them
    as for the rusty bits
i think he did a bit then took it outside then another bit then outside again
ill get it cleaned up and into dry dock this weekend so shouldnt be a problem

Im gonna find a good mk1 clio and build a sleeper . Something that doesnt require a pile of bodywork
So the raider interior badges new lights indicators raider carpet bodykit . Phase 2 grill unpainted, plastics panels and fully welded shell are up for grabs
Also a full grey and black leather interior
Ill add pics and post all in the classifieds later
