Yay pictures.
Lovely setup Ash, nice to see a different way of going about things!

Whilst the strip down was being done I fashioned a new end plate for the temperature sensor for when the nodiz goes on.
If you've been o specksavers you will notice the needle bearings and bearing case off one of the rockers that made its way into the sump, the rest built up in the corner in a muddy pile of finite swarf.
Pump survived.....
really felt for you after what happened mate, lets hope this year is much more productive i dont think your car could be in much better hands tbh sparkie is an absolute legend.
lets make it our goal to have both our cars out there making big numbers representing the c1j massive
I decided to get rid of my OE speedlines as I was opting for the bigger brake conversion so chose some clio dynamic 5 spokes and had them powder coater gloss black....(center caps were also done but left off until the end)
Got them wrapped up with some yoko ad08 advan tyres 205/55/15s and had the arches modded to take the girth!
would you care to elaborate on the news fella? if not on public then pm or inbox on fb.
boostage baby
Best of luck to you my mate
Just some updates on the car if anyone's bothered.
A little swarf/needle bearings caught in the turbo oil filter.
Everything was re-taken apart by Sparkie, jet washed, degreased and cleaned to make sure none of the disintegrated roller rockers parts remained.
All new rebuilt parts that were scored or damaged were re-supplied by sid dawn, thanks sid.
Back to square one with a brand new lump!
Its ready to go back in, running on a t2 for at least 1000 miles for the run in.
Once its run in I hope for the car to go to EFI parts for the rest of the nodiz to be installed and mapped, in addition the T28 (pics in earlier part of the thread) will be fitted and fuelled.
Jobs left to do are:
Big brake conversion R21 (calliper's need grinding down to fit).
calliper's need painting.
Nodiz fitting and setup.
Decent twin pump bracket for the charge cooler pumps need fabricating.
Finish fabricating a custom scuttle panel.
Give the new leather interior a good treatment.
Remove the dash/full interior plastics for flocking locally.
Re-spray of a brand new OE bonnet from Renault, wings, bumper and grille including a few odd spots on the inner sills due to scuffing from a low hanging door issue.
Installation of the ICE system.
Have bought a very good condition parcel shelf and installed 2x Vibe 6x9s 360W
1x1000W Vibe amplifier
1x10" Vibe subwoofer 800W
Alpine CDA 9855R head unit
Alpine KCA 420i iPhone interface adapter and cradle
Alpine 65mm 125W coaxial's in the front doors.
Hopefully all complete by March 30th ready for summer.....
Roller rocker damage...

of course were interested ash, this project is epic and is going be spot on when finished.
keep em coming
Im reading it mate.Keep em coming.
Thanks guys, I try and interact with people on here but only seem to click with less than ten! Im just a poor misguided fool! Ask Sparkie im not a bad guy once you get to know me. (sparkie please don't be a c#%t)
Sometimes I come across maybe a bit wrong, im not after sympathy of more comments but sometimes it seems like there's no point in updating the resto as its something that's been done to death! Either that or I am perceived at a tw&t haha.
Thanks for the positivity guys I feel a bit better now, you've all got a can waiting for ya at some shows this year!
Some good work going on here bud keep it up and keep the pics flowing, if it wasn't for people posting on here and showing us what there up too then it would be a bit boring.
Do I get a now at a show, I'm not a big can drinker
Great to see things moving forward for you after the trouble
Personally, I'm always interested to see updates on all projects no matter what they are - It helps keep the interest going for me. Like many others have experienced, my 5 is on the back burner while life takes over (poor me)
Keep up the good work
Ash , which 21 stoppers are you going to be using ? The 21TXI ones or the turbo ones?
Is that all you've got for us Ash?..poor show
Seriously tho, its nice to see its getting there mate, well done for not throwing in the towel.
Mate I'm well pleased for ya! C1j all the way!
Get boosting and enjoy it fella. You deserve care free motoring for the rest of your life after what happened.
Great to see you getting on with this Ash - looking good chap. This is the best place to keep your project documented bud, and great inspiration for others.
Inspiration it certainly is, the more pictures the better, can't have a day go by without looking at a c1j in bits! (that was a joke by the way)
Needle bearings still being found around the rocker cover baffle, pesky needle bearings!!!
Some ground up needle bearings found in the turbo oil filter hose.
Engine bay ready for lump.
Lump ready to drop
Its in for the 2nd time
Bought some lockwoods nice and cheap from the club shop, cheers RTOC and Bigfoot for the rapid delivery
Whilst not ideal , I think you got out of the situation quite fortunatly Ash. I guess the fact your engine was just idling helped.
Like a nodder splitting before the event I was a lucky boy, no kittens.
Even a novice could tell the engine sound was appalling, good mot man switched it off before it got worse.
If the head was damaged I would have gone f7, I couldnt cope with going through that again. The mathematics alone with the springs was honours degree level ffs.
Did you pop some magnets in the sump? Just in case it gets down there mate?
Your wiring loom looks like a meltdown waiting to happen......
Can't see that happening mate. From what I've been told you're in safe hands with Sparkie.
Definitely agree with Matt too. Pop down Maplins and buy a blowtorch soldering iron and shrink wrap and get rid of them crimp connectors & choccy blocks. They have no place in an engine bay
I've soldered every connection on my loom pretty much.
Well......................... since my last post ive had some pretty funky health problems to say the least with my ticker and the electrics for it! Im back on my feet but not totally fixed, but fixed enough to get back into messing with the five!
Anyhoo......................
Swapped the dials with the RTOC kit.
Took the bumper off to replace some wiring and for a general electrical tidy up. Swapped the fan switch, sump plug and a general service after running the fresh engine in to 450 miles.
Swapped and re routed the hoses for the chargecooler in red to match the rest, built a decent black bracket and clamps for the 2x bosch pumps also. Re wired the fan override and chargecooler system adding new cockpit switches.
The most suprising thing was the amount of $hite the turbo oil feed filter picked up
This was how she was breathing on thick 10/40 full of fresh "bits" really smokey.
This is after a oil and filter change like a different car!
Then it was time to give it a good clean and wax (its being part resprayed next month but ocd kicked in!)
Did some detailing on the wheels and tyres also.
Blunty came round and re=jetted my carb ready for big boost and I swapped the tiny turbo for the billet T28.
For some reason I couldn't find any of my old union adaptors so I got a old friend to braxe me one.
Had the tracking and the toe set up on a Hunter.
Car was dropped off this morning to have mappable ignition fitted and mapped tomorrow. Then then next month we'll see what the fruits of 2 years worth of labour has produced at the RTOC WGT dyno day.
120bhp on the nose.
Mark I will literally cry like a girl if it doesnt make another 100 on top of that estimate! Karma owes it me!
Still can't get over the oil change videos is crazy!
Got that be at the garage at 9 as the brew bitch and start the crappy job of tyrapping the loom in but if the mapper pulls his finger out we may have a mapped car by teatime! Can't wait for the hard cut limiter sound!
Will keep u informed mate and ill be down to get that camera and let u have a blast up and down your road with the rest of the dragsters haha.
really good job there, loving the gtt
pwr and frontmount is a fantastic set up, and will really make a big difference come spring/ summer with inlet temps and bhp output let me know how you get on with the twin pump set up, fitted exact same thing 14 months ago, but have yet to try it out
keep up the great work...
Great progress. Glad you're back on your feet.
I think Sparkie meant 120bhp over standard. So 240bhp
Edit - loving the tyre work btw. Takes me back to the 80's. I wonder if this is going to make a comeback. You might be cutting edge here
Thanks for the praise Andy!
Ive been driving round with it off to be honest because I was getting carb freeze (I was doing long distances on motorway and dual carriageways for the run in) sat at 70mph in 5th off boost!
Have fitted anti vibe washers today which eliminates any sound they produce hopefully!
Cheers trev. Sparkie better mean that...!
Tyres definitely put the willies in ANY car I've rolled up against at the lights, they look at the tyres then look at you and look forward.......... almost like they want you to burn off so they can watch! I've noticed when you put Meguiars hot shine tyre spray on it penetrates the paint and starts to slowly erode it Bit of a double edge sword im afraid, either cool tyre art or shiny tyres you cant have both
Sorry to hear about your health, I hope things are getting better for you. Really looking forward to your power results keep us posted
Is that a roller bearing turbo? If so it'll need a restricter in the oil feed.
Bad day at the mappers, took old trigger bracket off that was welded to the timing cover and the weld had decided to make its join stronger and when it was worked off it left a hole. Then took off the cover to find vernier damage to the cover in the shape of a circular groove it had cut in so the lid was toast anyway.
And the circular bearing thingy that goes between the pulley and the crank which the pulley bolt goes through had a hairline crack in it spotted by mike dulforce!!! Which was causing the seal to weep oil slightly.
All in all a day that should have been a mapped success turned into taking the c1j apart exercise AGAIN!
its a good job its easy to take apart!
It's easy to see why people ditch the c1j at times
Nothing worse that it going tits up when your expecting a decent result
