    MrB's Raider Project

Well, I bit the bullet and have done the deal! - I am buying my old Raider back after 6 Years!!

    Included in the sale:
Raider Shell - Very good condition, recently painted (again)
    Standard engine & gearbox
Seam welded and poly bushed subframe
Boxes of spare parts from 2 other breakers including doors, dash, interiors, running gear, etc
    Some silicone hoses
Loads of GT Tuning & K Tec stuff
    Half Cage & Boot Brace
    Header Tank
    Heatshield
    New bonnet
    New windscreen

Split engine ready for the following (also included in the sale)
    Wossner Pistons
    Steel Liners
K Tec Stage 3 Gas Flowed Head
K Tec Grill Mount Intercooler Kit
    Group A Carb
    Piper 285 Cam and Pulley
    Gas flowed turbo elbow
    K Tec downpipe

So I need to get, everything to build the engine such as gaskets, seals, bolts.
    New oil pump
    New water pump
    Hybrid Turbo
    Gas flow stock exh manifold
    Raider Front Seats
    Replace carpet
    Pair of Headlights
    Clutch & Cable
    Replace Engine Bay Loom
    New bodykit fittings
    Windscreen seals

Loads of other bits and pieces and no doubt the list will keep growing

Hopefully with the spares I am getting I will be able to make the most of the best parts and will have plenty of spares to sell on afterwards.

Top of the list though is a pair of Jacking points to be welded in and get it properly undersealed.
Then all new brake lines etc to go on.

Meanwhile I can catalogue all the parts and start cleaning all the ancillaries

My goal - A high specced engine built for fast road, oe looks (apart from a couple of subtle mods)

No timescale, but it has to be right

Some pics as she sits at the moment (in my mates garage)

All the bodykit, glass, smoothed bumpers etc are still at the paint shop. Once everything is starting to take shape it will look a bit more normal hopefully!!

    Cheers,
main thing is there is no rot on it. I know it's been fixed in the past but it's pretty solid and I'm starting from the ground up.

Will I be there at national day..... hmmmm

Can't think of what else to add,but it'll increase

I've only done a reasonably tame project but your ideas change and plans change!

Most of all, just don't rush it and give yourself grief then it's enjoyable watching it come together - and it enjoyable seeing people's updates

Best of luck with it all looks a great starting point, definately made the right decision because by the time you've finished you'll know every square inch of the car

So you brought it then I see, good man!

It may not look it now, but the hardest parts been done, I.e. getting it rot free and in bits! Trying to free off bolts that's are years old and snap is not a easy job.

Looks great, your on to a winner already, looking forward to seeing this one take shape buddy!

    Re: MrB's Raider Project

Cleaned some of the hoses tonight.
Unfortunately these are the only silicone hoses so I will have to buy loads more but as you can see some are doubled up so will be for sale at a later date

From the first few boxes I have a spare head, cam, rockers, about 3 carbs, a couple of standard oil filler caps, rocker covers, etc!

Unfortunately I also have a lot of brackets and bolts with no idea where they go yet

Can't wait to get started on the chassis

Soon to be under sealed, new jacking points welded in, all new brake lines, handbrake cables and whatever else.

You're close to competing with Penfold on this thread.... 2days from the start of a rebuild project before turning it round & selling it on.

[QUOTE=*MrB*;324063]So as I lay here at 1 am thinking this could all be too much

I'm wondering if I should turn this into a parts for sale thread :

So you've got boxes and boxes of kit & parts that you have no idea what they are for?

Where they go? - Is it all there? - when am I gonna get the time to do it? - and on my own? - can I afford to do it?

If you butchers my build thread I haven't by any means done a full build like yours, but!! I remember at first thinking 'ohhhh f**k what have i done'

I didnt have a scooby doo when i first started my car (not much has changed)

Not everything has to be done straight away, I've left some bits on my car just to get it road worthy, these cars are never 'done' but don't let it beat you, after a while you'll be clued up and realise joining here was a good decision (full of pics, advice and relevant threads!) and some bits can be done at a later date

When I look at my dads project (old BMW 635csi) I realise that we own a simple go-kart

    Re: MrB's Raider Project

    Wallace, that is exactly it!

Oh my god where do all these bits go?!!
    What is missing?!!
    Where do I even start?!!
Have I bitten off more than I can chew?!!
I can see the cost spiralling out of control quite easily!!!

It's very daunting but I do really want to stick with it.

Just had one of many (I'm sure) anxious moments thinking what have I let myself in for!!

I know there is good help on the boards and I think once I get stuck into the chassis and start actually putting bits in some sort of order I will feel better.

Just lying there last night unable to sleep thinking Jeez, what I doing!!!
The end result should eventually be more than worth it

Thanks again for all the encouragement and support

Just do one area at a time mate like put interior in carpet obvious where that goes seats centre consul that gets rid of alot of things then put glass in then bumpers and archs and skirts leave front end because your putting engine in make a list and follow it thats what i do its easy to get distracted anything your stuck on ask and i will take a picture and do a description and get a haynes manual i found it helpful

Or if you're unsure ask a local member to bring his 5 over and check that all the pipes/wiring etc is all good. Plenty of people on here are willing to help mate.

Think positive and be methodical. It'll be a great motor when its back together

Every bodies spot on with their advice

And yeah mate I know the feeling cause I've done it!

    Well actually, I'm still there

If it were me, the one thing I'd personally start with is all the electrical looms & relays etc - check wires arent broken, damaged, have poor connections, basically that things look usable, because at this point they are all accessible

The reason I say this is because most other parts can be bought or changed over in time, but the engine loom for example is a FOOKING pain in the arse to get to once fitted and ultimately controls your whole engine so you want it to be sound and fit for purpose.

Just my opinion but something to maybe consider

Ok so I am thinking now.....

I am almost certainly going to sell some of the performance parts and use the original stock engine but I have had a few people message me about taking the lot on or everything to rebuild the car, so...

If I was to sell the following what would the interest be?

Wossner Pistons Standard Comp, from K-Tec
    K-Tec Steel Liners
K Tec Stage 3 Gas Flowed Head
K Tec Grill Mount Intercooler Kit
    Group A Carb
Piper 285 Cam and Cat Pulley

I've got no need for a 200 bhp motor to be honest.

My original plan was mint, oe with subtle mods and lightly tuned.

Nothing that couldn't be put back to oe basically.

This lot is taking it too far

Nothing wrong with that, intact I often wish I could do the same, I just love a quick gtt to much to resist

If your serious about it then it has to be exactly how you want it otherwise there is no point
