That popped into my head, still chuckle when I see people talking about the two bucket method as I automatically remember car.crash asking if he could use the same bucket twice

I use auto glym products, normally wheel cleaner and normal wash stuff. Might give it a rub with srp if I've got time and energy, that's it really

    Re: Detailing products

the trouble i always find is that most products always take the wax off when washed. best stuff ive used so far is dodo juice juiced edition wax and born to be mild shampoo.

check this site out. i love it!!!

I've never really tried Auto glym products but my old man swears by them

Think I'll go the dodo juice route, they seem expensive but I hope u get what u pay for!

Thing is its the same for me, when I've washed the car the gloss does disappear, and I am a right tart love keeping it clean and shiny

Probably opening myself up to much ridicule but the the finish is all in the prep and decontamination so you should be looking at a de-tar and Iron X and then claying of the paintwork. A nice neutral shampoo like Dodo born to be mild will not strip any wax, lime prime polish and auto glym hd wax is very good. You will also need a good wash mitt and selection of micro fibres.

I do have most of the above, but I think the ph neutral shampoo is the way to go

Once I've had some good use out of the car I am gonna go to town with a clay etc to get the paint mint!! It's good now but the bonnet in particular has lots of light scratches from when I was doing the engine bay refurb and kept moving the bonnet from one place to another

Ill admit to using the two bucket method

I use poorboys stuff and victoria concours wax, a bit of effort in the prep goes very far.

Done the wifes meg on sat, quick clay/filler/wax. Turned out well for 3 hrs graft. It will be getting a machine polish come summer for a proper job

    Re: Detailing products

as said above a good de tar/iron x followed by clar bar is a good start and will get the paint ready for the next stages.
There is a whole range of stuff out there i have got and tried heaps of it, auto glym is decent stuff and very user friendly, you can also pick up there hd wax for around £25-30 off ebay.
poorboys make some great products i personally like there blackhole glaze which is a great pre show filler before wax, also chemical guys make an excellent product called blacklight which is like an all in one.
wax wise i have fount the ag hd wax and more so the dodo juice supernatural hybrid to be the most durable, but for the wettest look it has to be chemical guys butter wet wax (good show wax not very durable).

i will be trying out some of the britemax and alot of the autobrite range in the coming months so ill report how i find them

there are a few on here that go to town on their cars, but i've never had a 5 that was worth more effort than a bucket wash and a wax.. 20 year old chips, dents, scratches etc just dont buff out.. even mums clio 182 has got to the point where the efforts pointless, it needs a dent man out..

one day i'll break out the dodo juice again..

unless you take a picture of it makes my turd look nice and shiny.

I just wash it then leather it dry, gets a coat of wax once a year, as for products i just grab whatever is around and use that. Mine is about three different shades of raider blue and has a rusty screen surround so as long as it's presentable that will do me

I know what you mean. I use Dodo Juice Sour Power shampoo, which I've found the best out of that, Born to be Mild, and Supernatural. It leaves a glossy finish after it's been washed. If you need more, you can use a quick detailer afterwards.

If you're going to try Dodo wax, then try their panel pots first for a few $$. Blue Velvet is my personal favourite.

    Re: Detailing products

Are you going to be polishing by hand? If so Auto Finesse Tripple is a great all in one polish that cleans, polishes, fills and leaves some protection.

Dodo Juice waxes are still some of the best value for money. I like their Rainforest Rub the most
Poorboy's Natty's Red is another brilliant, easy to use wax that doesn't cost the earth.
If you want to push the boat out I have a spare pot of Auto Finesse - Desire for sale

Shampoos are a very wide area as everyone has their favorites. Dodo born to be mild is my go to one, cleans really well and is super lubricated to reduce wash marring.

Better products will help maintain the finish for longer. A higher quality wax will still look great after a few months, where a lesser one will start to fad in looks after a few washes. You can use a quick detailer after you've washed and dried the car to bring back that glossy look. But it's only short lived.

Finally, a detailing topic on RTOC. I never thought I'd see the day

Black hole will remove the fillers left by SRP so just use one or the other. You won't see any benefits from using both it'll save you time too.

    Re: Detailing products

Well I got into detailing a few years ago, got a new (to me) car and it was only on 20k, and 2years old, so as new as it gets for me (ly r26)- wanted to keep it clean so signed into detailingworld. Got some info off there, 2 bucket method to avoid swirls, wheel cleaner/sealent, good wash and wax products etc... before I new it I had a das6 polisher and aload of microfibers etc

Iv never spent a whole weekend cleaning a car etc, but I have fully machined mine over a morning and waxed and sealed it etc - very satisfying results and also speeds up the next cleans. Dirt doesn't sit on waxed cars as much and most just rinses off, and then water runs off and easier and quicker to dry it.

My r5 has never been mint so have left that, but when it comes back from bodyshop... fresh paint etc might aswell keep it looking good, with a good wash method and some good products. But im not the type who cotton buds hard to reach places and detailis every square inch - personally havnt got time for it and not the concentration

A few pics of my work

In all honesty, I just don't get this detailing thing. Fair play if you enjoy it but I'd rather be driving my car on a sunny day than chasing the polish round before it dries on hot metalwork.

We recently discussed this on barryboys.

It was brought about by this thread:

And got so anal that this happened:

    http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/vi...5802&start=100

I recommend reading all 7 pages as its utterly hilarious but best of all is the second post on page 6

I never know how this "detailing" thing came about, I mean I though you had your car valeted and if you wanted to make it look real mint had someone mop it? I have been polishing cars, planes, boats etc to a non swirl finish for as long as I have been a painter but never called it "detailing". And as far as spending 5 large on wax, wtf? I bet 9 out of 10 peeps would not even see the difference from some £2.99 gear brought from the market. I would be prepared to lay down the gauntlet to any "pro" detailer to see who produced the best finish.

Isn't the term 'detailing' an Americanism that we have gradually adopted? I carried out a bit of valeting in the late 90's early noughties and never heard the word back then.

    Re: Detailing products

It is pretty much just the American term for valeting but was adopted here. It's generally used when further care and attention to detail is taken.
Generally a valeter would come and wash and wax a car in an hour tops where a detailer would take much like nger going through processes to ensure the paint is perfectly clean and free from contaminants before laying down a good wax or sealant.

The difference visually between a cheap and expensive wax will be very marginal when they're first applied but the durability of the 'just waxed' look will be much better with a high end wax.
And the ease of use tends to be much better with a better quality wax.

guys i completley agree on a nice a day im out in the 5 where possible - but im smiling even more as my car is clean and looks 10x better without the swirls.

To be fair im probably not even a detailer compared to most, as i dont spend silly money on wax, iv got the cheapest stuff as it works. And i dont get into every area of the car, just keep it as clean as possible. And theres baked on brake dust on the front of my wheels from trackdays. I try to keep the paint as best as possible in as little time as possible. But trust me, i use my cars

I'm about to order a DAS-6 PRO with MEGS 105 and 205 with some hexlogic pads.

I don't know what any of it means or how to use it but I've been advised its good
