    Williams wheels tyres and sizes

I'm shopping for some Willy Tyres. Lots of people have these wheels now, common as muck!

I think offically they are 185 55 vr 15 I read somewhere you can put 195 50 vr 15's that improve handling and are cheaper?

What size/brand do people use and where from? Internet etc
Fast road and occasional track is the order of the day.

I wouldn't use 45 ratio on track, unless you like understeer.
195/50/15 better, well, they were for me.... Cheaper too.
I used prada spec2 they were around £30 each, good on road and track.

I'm running 195 45 15 on both my car's, toyo T1-r's on the 5, and goodyear f1's on my polo gti. Never had a problem with understeer with either car on the road, admittedly I've never been on a track with either car though. They look better on a 5 than the 195 50's as well in my opinion

True, you won't get much understeer admiring a plastic roll cage in Mc-donalds car park, but at 90mph entry into somewhere like paddock hill bend of Brands Hatch, the harder sidewalls of the 45 ratio tyres tend to break away earlier than a 50 ratio tyre.....just personal experience, I mean Brands Hatch, not Mc-donalds car park.

With 45 ratio tyres...... Me at Brands Hatch
Still managed a class win after that run.

Where in my post did I mention any thing about McDonalds? The only time I go there is in the work van when im feeling a bit peckish. I leave all that car park shenanigans to the little kids. I haven't taken my car on a track day because I the cars not ready for it yet. Once it has a full roll cage in it and other little things tarted up then maybe it will see a track.

I have to agree with Matt, have a read about slip angles peeps, its all about your cars set up with dampers etc, you can run a lower profile if you like its all how your dampers can be set up and track conditions, i think you would have more room for error with a 50 profile.. Of course you need to monitor your tyre temps more with a more flexible tyre... To me R888 over heat to fast and you need start of low on pressures, about 18-19psi to cover a race distance without them going off to soon..

Are you running this size tyre on a Gt turbo or Clio Matt? Did you suffer from rubbing?

So 50's perform better but the rub?
45's do not rub on the arches?

    Cheers

I know Jaffa uses a 40 profile tyre on his 5. All i can say is theres not many 5's go around the track as quick as his does!

Not discounting anything thats been said, i aint a clue!

Re: Williams wheels tyres and sizes

I ran 195/45/15 (no rubbing to speak of, but not too low on suspension) on both R5 and Clio.
The R5 had slight clearance problems with the 50 ratio on the R5, but I 'adjusted' that,
The best compromise I found, was a yokohama A539 185/50/14 on 6x14 rims. This enabled me to use the bigger brakes from a Clio 16v.
