How many miles to a Tank of petrol??

As the title suggests really?? How many miles do people get out of a tank of fuel??

I rarely use my 5 enough to get thru a tank but had to drive to Birmingham yesterday & got up to 230 miles & the fuel gauge was messing around in the last quarter of the tank (rising & falling like a hoars drawers!?)

The cars essentially standard with 1 bar of boost & has the slightly larger jet to allow for this boost. I was driving at a steady 70-75mph on the motorways.

Is this right or is my car running a little rich??

I got it rolling roaded last year at the Thor day & the fuelling looked OK for the boost?

Last time my 5 ran, it done just over 350miles to the tank on the way to germany. And that wasn't quite running right either.

Used to get around 250 running with C1J with mixed driving.

Well ever since I started putting in 99ron fuel my mpg has gone up to like 35... which is awesome. Get about 330 miles from the tank now

I always put Shell V-Power in the beast... I drove about 340 miles to a tank full, but that was with my standard carb. I now have a gp A, which probably uses a fair bit more
By the looks of your mileage, it seems to me that you're running a little rich indeed... do you have a wideband kit to measure the AFRs? Did you only increase the main jet? Because that would cause a richer mixture with or without boost... and you probably only need more fuel when on boost. If I were you, I'd put the standard 1.2 main jet in again and drill the 2nd stage jet to 1.1 and maybe 1.2...

I used to get 270miles to tank but that was all motorway miles, when thrashed I got as low as 180miles sometimes less

Since I've gone efi I get 240miles when thrashed and got 325miles to and from National day this year (that includes the time on track)

I got about 45+mpg from my Campus on a long journey once.. But that was driving at 60 on the motorway all the way.

i get bugger all, about 200 or there abouts if im being good. thats running a T2 so its always on boost if i touch motorways

logg runs a bigger turbo than me and while following to and from santa pod was getting better fueling all the way, and he was giving it more beans than i was..

My vans pretty good on fuel, will return 300 ish on a tank with mixed motorway/urban driving. Could probably get a canny few more miles to a tank if i drove at grandad speeds.

Ive experienced mixed costs due to back brakes were sticking a bit, then i sorted it and now its just started to happen again,

its not a lot but its sticking a little and it cost more on fuel for sure.

i imagine that a straight car , no sticky brakes or worn parts. at 1bar , 260 - 330 miles mixed driving upto 99mph on the moterway, crusieng at speeds of 85mph.
round town you would need to use just 2000rpm to save on fuel to achive highter stated milage

I went out for a drive last week and what cost me £25-£30 a few months ago now cost only £20-£25 so a big saving on long runs. price depends on how my car is diven.

I think my car is terrible on fuel, i get 50-60 miles from £10 of fuel, roughly 25-30mpg i think.

there arn't going to be many aincient low compression turbo engine's a carburettor that return anything like (in a modern sence) good fuel ecconomy.

Get what ya can afford ! "my gtt is sweet for me, power / cheap on fuel compared to alot of others"bouns

Lets face it, if people want to drive fast/stylish cars or what ever they must enjoy putting fuel in and going for a pointless drive . and if you want a fast/powerful car, spend lots on fuel and enjoy yourself when you do

you can get a boost/vac guage for a guide and try and stay between 10 and 20"hg(i think thats mercury)

Im not complaining about the mileage i get from my 5 as i'd rather it run well for 200 miles to a tank rather than badly for 260 miles then blow up!!

Driving fast isn't necessarily the issue.. do you tend to love that turbo RUSH away from the lights at every opportunity?? Maybe that's your problem??

When only running 7-10 psi "manifold" boost, on a standard t2, it seems you have to use the throttle a lot more to get any where.

When running 12-15psi it seems you dont have to floor it, therefore i @15psi only need to touch the pedel to get great responce.

On the apexi boost gauge i got, can keep it under 0 hg and still go quite quick! touch the pedal a little more and the 1bar of boost kicks in ,and uses way more fuel.

Seems these little turbo engines like the extra boost, gives them all round performance improvement and more efficent if drove in the right manner.

150-340 miles per tank who cares lol mine costs me £291 to insure and £62 to tax and can fix myself to a certain extent. corpare that to somthing that performs as good. cost you more than twice as much r5gtt

Steve struggling to remember the sizes you went for in your carb - maybe Miller will remember as he drilled it just get the AFR's checked. Sounds good to me though - better to be a little rich than lean

I get about 180miles to nearly 48litres in the vx on mixed motorway and A roads lol. Drops to 60miles on track and that is with 6 speed box and efi (2.6ish rpm at 70mph lol)

Seem to average 18-21mpg - time to check my AFR's I think or just stop boosting

not used my 5 much lately as the 106 was getting my 40mpg or there abouts and switching to a 1.7 astravan has been just as sweet to me.. the other day however was the first time in ages i put more than a tenner in it as cost (£1.20+ a ltr)was killing me. i think it was just over the 1st 1/4 and i stuck £20 in which filled the fecker up.. at the height of fuel prices i put £15 and the needle didnt move, it only lasted 2 days..

if costs go over £1 per ltr its off the road again..
