    Wheel bearing?

Im getting a scrubbing noise from my drivers side rear wheel,it sounds like tyre scrub but the tyre is clear of all bodywork so it's not that.

    any ideas?

can wheel bearings sound like that when they go?

    Re: Wheel bearing?

Try sticking some grease in your CV boot. I had like A swooshing noise for a while so i replaced the bearing, the sound went away for couple of days then came back. I packed some grease into the CV joint and its been fine since.

    Re: Wheel bearing?

Jack the corner of the car up the noise is coming from and spin the wheel, if the bearing is gone you may hear it making a slight noise or it might feel notchy, if not hold the top and bottom of the tyre and try to push and pull the wheel in and out of the wheel arch, if it rocks back and forth slightly change it. Also check the plastic covering behind the disc is clear and not touching anything moving.

    Re: Wheel bearing?

Just had another idea, there is a little valve in that wheelarch for the fueltank ventilation, the mounting it sits in has been known to rust through, and also the filler neck has a bracket that has also been known to rot out, double check the wheel/tyre hasn't rubbed through any of that lot

    • have ya got a stone behind the disc between the disc and the backplate?
    • also check ya rear bumper mounts... mine scrub on big bumps even though my suspension is rock solid
erm... no idea what else it could be. wheelbearings generally make a metallic rotating grind noise
