    Transit LWB high top connect

    Hi all,

I have a 53 reg Transit Connect, it's quite a rare beasty as it has twin sliding doors.

Anyways, this van is becoming a pain in my behind and I have finally had enough and have decided to get shot.

The van has an intermittent fault, but otherwise drives.

Since may it has had the following:

    Alternator £130
    Starter motor £95
    Clutch kit £140 plus fitting
    Full exhaust system £50
    Set of injectors £130 each

It's also had a Cam belt and timing chain. It leaks no oil/water it drives great until For some unknown reason (fords and all local specialists baffled) it cuts out when the accelerator is on the floor in 5th gear. It is going back into fords one last time on Wednesday- if it isn't repaired by then, I shall be either breaking it or selling it. (Im unsure at the moment).

Has anyone experienced this in their vans and solved it? I'm a member on a transit website but no one has came up with a problem solving answer.

    Thanks for reading

    Davo.

I put a new inlet metering solenoid on the pump, made no difference matey.

Common rail diesels are not the future at all, but everyone is using the system now

can't you use an OBD black box that plugs into the 16pin socket and monitors the live data until a fault is found. - it then logs the live data at that point and the error code that is produced. there are loads available....

I've had live feed from the mechanic I use- still no luck. Think the pumps ****ed to be honest. Gonna use it as a donor for the other one, or get a rear end write off one maybe... Such a tidy van body wise it's really nice

We had a landrover at work and on a long pull in 5th it was sucking the intake hose in on itself and then cutting out well hard to find that was its modern so if its cutting out it should be logged as a memory fault even if its not active

Yeah it throws up a fuel metering fault, but leak off test was fine- everything else has been changed- so thinking it could be air sensor fault maybe?

Cheers for the advice/help guys. Really appreciate it.

It's booked into fords tomorrow- I'm buying another van this weekend, but still want this one sorted as I want it for a new employee. Never buy a common rail tdci. They are money pits.

I'll pm you the codes tomorrow lee if that alright?

    Thanks again

    Davo

if you need to change the pump, get a virginised unit.
the good old bosch kts can do this with some special leads.

fit the pump, turn the ign on, then off, then on, then the unit is coded to the car.

i spoke to someone at Bosch technical who does this as a little sideline

    Righteo...

Ford have tested it and say that the pump is cream crackered.

If anyone can get one cheap please let me know. Cheers for all the suggestions/comments.

Yeah, 200 ish quid. Need one with a warranty/guarantee though, cos I don't want to be down this road in 6 months time. £345 plus the vodka and tonic for one with 1 year guarantee.

I feel like I've been fingered by the devil- my 5 is 100% more reliable than my van.

I'm treating myself to a new van this weekend. I've decided when it comes to second hand vans, you're generally buying someone else's ****.

    Onwards and upwards!!

That's a great price! I'm going to get it repaired by a mechanic friend. My 5 costs loads less to run, and its more reliable than my van.

Spring is almost here- I can't wait to drive my car again
