defo agree phil i actually lost count of the amount of thumbs up and rubber necking i seen, we actually stopped on the petrol station just before donno to get some money and a car full in a saph cossie couldnt take there eyes off it then when i was pulling up he was nodding and giving it the thumbs up.

best one was when we got to park up at donno i popped the bonnet and had a crowd of 8 people around it all saying this andn that, my lady thinks its a right laugh

well its just been decided that were now heading to RAF Cosford tomorrow for the bike4life fest so it will be another 100 miles my car can rack up

thinking of upping the boost back to 23-24psi as its only at 20 atm with very good fuelling and no signs of det, but if its wet when we go then i wont bother as theres no way of testing it out

hi mark hope your well fella

just a few bits and bobs, going go for a larger rad possibly off the 1.6 diesel? then external oil cooler.

i have negotiated a deal for a proper genuine 27mm group A carb kit from france, and also talking to xenon about getting one of his mates programmable aei units

still toying with the idea of going for larger exhaust valves in the head but not wanting go for metro turbo ones as they seem to be a bit fragile

and all this will be done on the complete hush hush from the future wife whilst the car is in my mates garage all over winter

had a day out boosting in the car yesterday went for a small run around leek and a bit of the roaches stopped off at thorncliffe for 5 and took a quick pic

we then headed to scholar green to a little country pub for some dinner and a drink, car performed great didnt miss a beat just have to work the gearbox a bit more now due to the new spec turbo being a bit laggy, hopefully will be able to dial a bit of this out with mappable aei

Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration

    bit of a boring update

weather depending we might be going to darley moor this sunday for the thundersprint event, if we do go were going go in the r5 again i said i want it to be used as much as possible this year and this would put another 85-90 miles on it

another update which is not so boring is that im toying with the idea of going for a full efi conversion on my engine but gotta wait on a couple of things before we can see if i can go for it, failing that it will 100% be getting the mappable aei from france

Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration

    Big update

as above i was really toying with the idea of going for the mappable aei unit from the french guys, but iv decided to go the whole hog and bin the carb and go for a full efi conversion

iv already been in contact with scoff with regards to fitting/mapping and am hopefully buying the efi inlet from michael tierney end of this month, i shall then gather parts as and when maybe one thing a month eg cossie fuel pump one month then vxr injectors next one etc.

scoff already does the efi conversion kit so that will be purchased through him along with coil pack and leads.

i really think my cars engine will be amazing with an efi conversion im not to fussed about peak figures more so a more linear power curve with much more low/mid range also much better mpg and turn key starting

i was thinking about the f7 route myself but i cant bring myself to let the c1j go, i see it as retaining an integral part of the car but giving it a more modern lease of life

Hi ive efi ed mine about september time and since then ive done about 1200 miles and its amazing turn key and go much better mpg and the power comes in earlier down the revs. And its smoother to drive you wont regret it. Fitting a idle valve will help with cold starts as well. As roy said if you need a hand or info im willing to help. Fitted all of mine and then chris did the mapping.

Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration

so iv now started to out a list together of parts im going to need to carry out the efi conversion

    here goes

efi conversion kit from efi parts (ecu/loom etc)
efi inlet/tb/fuel rail set up from michael tierney
efi fuel pump either mk1 golf or cosworth
    efi fuel pressure regulator
fuel swirl pot to be fitted in boot
throttle position sensor, air temp and water temp sensors from efi parts
wasted spark coil pack and ht leads from efi parts
    saab red injectors
trigger wheel and sensor from efi parts

im hopefully going to do most of the fitting with help from others of all parts before it goes upto efi parts for mapping

if you guys can think of something iv missed off above then please let me know

massive thanks to roy for sending me his pre welded trigger wheel set up for the cost of a pint at the next classic car meet

in other news i have now sold my old faithful workhorse escort van to ash (redoctober) as i now have a works van again so this means the 5 will be getting alot more

i have been out and about boosting the last 2 days and in fact went to do a cash in hand job yesterday in it, who said 5s cant multi task
had some fun on the way home and again tonight finished work and took the car for a quick 6 mile drive with a bit of spirited driving in places
had 2 lads in a golf r32 giving me big thumbs up and if my lipreading skills are upto scratch said "F'in nice mate"

all in all i cant get enough of the car atm really has that grin factor back on my face, i cant imagine how much better it will be when its converted to efi

i honestly think this is a great way of staying traditional but with a modern more effective twist.

there is no doubt my engine is one powerful c1j and the addition of efi will make it an even more capable more responsive engine

well guys circumstances and priorities have changed since i was last on here, short of it is my car is potentially being sold this saturday to a guy local to me, really hope it goes through as the car needs to go to a fresh home and more importantly somewhere where it will get used.

ill update on matters this saturday and if for some reason the guy decides against buying it i will then stick it up for sale on here
