Count yourself lucky you could be in my shoes and be looking after two 20 month olds with stomach bugs all on my tod! I know what i would rather be doing right now

Got to credit your commitment as the rust appeared quite extensive, most would have either scrapped and given up or re-shelled.

popped round the garage on way back from the gym got a couple of quick pics of the front seats back in the car (yes i know they aint in the best condition but my funds wont allow to buy new uns until end of the year).

i have also been spending some more money with my good mate mike at gt turbo spares, have bought a brand new genuine renault gear gaitor and new pedal rubbers. Will be getting a few more new bits soon eg new headlights, rear lights etc

You'll regret it bud, I've considered selling mine about a million times in the 10 years I've owned it, but have never gone through with it. If I'm not feeling it I just throw a cover over it. The longest I've gone without looking at it was 18 months

Would it not have been easier mate to fit the interior back in after your full re spray just think of over spray dust getting on all your nice clean interior mate its a sod cause it can still get through the paper once taped up looking quality either way mate another great project saved from rusting away

blunty well done dude, you have saved a r5, and the work looks good, you should be super happy..
Imo i think the seats are a bit to red for your car and eventually maybe a better fitting sit, but of course thats my opinion only, and please only take it as that

    First post!

Hello mate, I used to own your 'yesmobile'! Glad you have restored it, I just re-joined RTOC today as I was thinking about getting a GTT again sometime.

I had the car for 4 years, bought it off some idiot who didn't tell me the clutch was on the way out (I should have figured it out really!) so first job owning a 5 was taking the engine out and changing the clutch. That was 8 years ago now!
It also came with some chav wheels, so I bought some turbines and painted them black, which I thought looked great (and still does judging by your pics!).

I sold the car early in 2009 as it needed money spending on it that I didn't have, only got £900 for her, but unfortunately I needed a more sensible car for work. I saw it on ebay a few months later, with some additional modifications, and with the water injection removed, I don't know why that was removed it did a top job of cooling boost.

It was a great car to drive, and I am really glad it is in good hands, your hard work will pay off when you come to sell it, they seem to be appreciating a lot.

I apologies for those horrible seats, the originals were wrecked and I found those buckets on ebay for 50 quid, which was a lot cheaper than fixing them.

I bet it is quick now you have tuned it up! It's good to see an original bodywork 5, there are a lot of bodykit ones on ebay, I never saw the need to change the bodywork as Renault did a great job on it!

hi tom firstly welcome back to rtoc and good to hear your thinking of getting another r5gtt, iv got an rolling road day sorted for april 20th at noble motorsport in chesterfield maybe you could pop along and meet a few of the guys etc?

nice to hear a bit of history on the car and when iv looked back at the history you seem to have looked after the car well, thank god you changed the wheels .
it was an absolute nail when i bought it dont think the guy had got a clue tbh.

you would win that bet, its an absolute animal now and might just have a few more bhp when its up and running again.

Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration

good news a couple more jobs have been done on my car

braided brake hoses are now fitted
cupro nickel brake lines are now fitted

bad news iv had to get 2 new front brake calipers but got them for £55 each which i thought is not a bad price.

very true, bloody big job the brake lines are, especially with this nickel stuff as its alot harder than copper
