Guys and girls,
I'm having a bit of a brain fart and can't remember if the C1J has any ignition timing marks for use with a strobe timing light? I'm thinking no?
Woz

Thanks guys. I didn't have access to a manual and just couldn't remember.
I'll have to get myself a timing light now. I need one that can deal with wasted spark, any ideas?
Mass production means discrepancies. Can be a few degrees out.
Lucky you, I have.
Really ? Are you saying the mark on the flywheel doesn't line up at real TDC ? I've dti and strobed loads of C and F engines in the course of calibrating ECUs and building motors, never once seen one as much as a degree out. I can't imagine where the error could come from.
Yes, mine was over a degree out on the red c1j engined race car.
In the workshop at the moment I have a Rover Coupe race car, thats miles out.
My fiat was the worst one, luckily it was a non damaging engine.
I used to use a tdc stop made out of an old spark plug to get true tdc, on the c1j but i don't need to tell you how to suck eggs Chris.
Sorry matt, I thought you were only talking about Renaults as I think Oli was.
Mart, yes good point, maybe a degree or more in that if they're very bad.
is 1 degree that critical?
No worries Chris, I'm sure we are all on the same side....
Tony, every little helps mate, that's what I've been telling my other half
Tbh, it's probably not too critical though on an old nail engine like a c1j, but its buggering up the motec in the rover race car at the moment....phucking thing!
Rovers have some funny timing patterns !
