Any progress yet? Summer would of been and gone at this rate. Unless there doing you a good deal, I would get on their case as they had it coming up three months? Only good thing them taking ages I guess is the weather getting better and longer day light hours to get back building it back up.

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

No progress yet, took all last week to get the paint color sorted. Mixed it then had to wait for them to spray a test card a couple of times. But yeah it is still taking ages, it might get sprayed Monday. We did a deal on the price but I'm hardly getting it for free. I'm not pushing too much as I need to finish my engine rebuild while there's space in the garage. Once the car is back there ain't much room in my garage to work on stuff. I did express an interest in getting it back on Tuesday for my birthday and they might come good, but I doubt it.

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

So after a long 4 months I have finally got the painted shell back at my house today. It got dropped off earlier, small issue of a sheared wheel bearing from the front wheels being lifted on a tow truck, good job it didn't have to come far or it may have ended up minus its front wheels in the middle of the road. The wheels were angled over when it turned up outside my house and then the right front sheared off the bearing as we pushed it up my drive, narrowly avoided the shell hitting the deck I'm guessing not having the drive shafts in means the bearings have nothing to hold them together and it couldn't take the weight and the bearing just fell apart.

Anyway the paint looks great, the custom tungy paint mix we did looks awesome the colour is rich and deep and the clear coat is really smooth to the touch. Took a few pictures on my phone the depth in the colour doesn't quite come out too well on it but once I get the wheel fixed I'll push it out into the sun to see it shine and get the decent camera out from some proper shots.

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

So the rebuild has started, spent a bit of time cleaning all the filler dust off the sub frames and underside of the car. Taken the front sub frame off to give it a proper clean and ended up repainting some of it as well. Got powerflew wishbone bushes to put in and also need to get the front wheel bearings changed as well while the front end is out.

Ordered up new fuel and brake pipes and have stated to fit the rear brake lines. Need to fit the rear brake lines, then the fuel tank and new fuel pipes. Then its power steering system before dropping the engine and box back in and piping it all up....

Took a couple of pics of the painted engine bay, oh and before removing the sub frame I test fitted an engine conversion...

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

Rebuilt the front end of the car to get it back on 4 wheels. Also got the fuel tank back on and new copper brake lines and fuel pipes semi finished.

Installed Powerflex wishbone bushes, have to say massive thank you to Powerflex who sent me a set of the metal outer shells for free as the set I got off someone didn't come with any. Also got a new set of ball joints and painted and lacquered them to try and stop them going rusty.

I built a wheel board so I can build up the subframe and drive train then lower the car onto it all. This is a test fit to get it back on 4 wheels and play around with power steering options. I first tried the power steering rack I got which fitted on the subframe ok but the bit the column attaches to is too high and the pushes the OE column a few inchs up past the mounting bolts. So I took it off and stuck the OE rack back on and will have a go at the electric column I have from a clio.

No, it's using the same holes etc, but the barrel part had no clearance so chopped out a section and part of exhaust pipe to weld back in to keep strength. Although bit of metal bent into shape will do the trick if you not got any pipe laying around. Il see if I got any better pictures.

ah ok I see what you are doing, the rack I have fits on the subframe without any part hitting the frame but the problem was that it sits too high so the column when connected is sitting up into the car too much, have you tried mounting the OE column onto that rack?

Oh I get what you mean. Yes, same problem, the collum can be adjusted buddy, give it a good wrack if you not got a press and you can actually shorten the length!!!! I'm by my car now working on it so will take a snap and upload later for you.

Here you go, not the best of pictures, but you can see it can be adjusted by sliding into its self with some force.

Thats the colapsable part of the column, if you knock the bottom of the column gently it will push into itself which will shorten the column up for you

cheers Mark, I'll give it a go. Is the collapsible column part of a safety feature?

Did a bit of work on the motor last night, re-timed my cam think I got it right this time dialed in 2 deg of advance to 110 deg. Fitted the sump and bashed out the timing cover. I also sprayed up the head a few weeks ago, now going to have to spray the water pump to match..

I did have to go at it a fair bit, not quite sure what was catching on the cover, think it might only be the camshaft bolt, you could put a thinner washer on and it might clear but i think the vernier bolts also rub a bit as well

Cheers Jeff, I did plan on fitting a cam kit this spring but sadly funds are just dwindling away so that will have to wait untill the winter. But my chain cover is back from the blasters ready for some paint and I thought id best bash it out now ready for when I do fit it.

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

Not had much time on the car the last couple of weeks but have had a final go at making the clio pas column fit and it's looking like it might work.

I've had to turn it upside down (should still work like this I think!), remove all the stock brackets and weld on a strip of steel to create some fixing points at the front. The clio lower column joins up with the oe rack ok. I still need to make a bracket for the back by modding the clio bracket.

The end of the column where the steering wheel boss mounts sits a bit lower than the OE column so will need a deep dish steering wheel to get it closer to the driver and will have to mod/make a custom dash to go around the pas motor. the 5 ignition fits the clio barrel holder so might cut this off and weld it on the other side, going to try adapting a set of clio stalks as well... oh and the motor doesn't actually bang your knee like it looks it would

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

Here is the completed Clio power steering column installation all fitted. I have ordered up the adjuster knob kit from ebay to enable control of the steering sensitivity so will get that test fitted when it arrives and see if its any good. I test fitted the dash and should only need to cut out the side of the lower pocket and the motor should sit in the pocket out the way nicely.

Column all fitted and connected to oe rack with clio lower column.

Custom lower bracket, I cut up the clio bracket and welded a bit of flat bar to it then drilled a couple of holes to line up with the R5 studs and reused the R5 flange nuts.
