today I stripped off as much manky old underseal as I could from the floor pans, then cleaned up with some white spirit so I could spray on new underseal. Very happy with the finish, just need to paint my stub axles then the sub frame and suspension can go back on and then I can start on the back end.

Assembled the front end this weekend and put it back on the car so I can spin it round on the driveway to look at the back end. Here are a few pictures of it all.

I have new bolts on order for all the suspension and sub frame etc, so the whole thing will look nice and shiny and complete once they are fitted.

Good job as per usual. Could you take a pic of all the bolts when you get them please. Where did you get them from and were they expensive? Cheers

Mike gt turbo spares is sorting them out for me, using OE bolts was going to be about £80 for all the bolts on the subframe and suspension, so he is sorting out a cheaper solution for it.

This weeks progress...Got the car spun round on the drive and have started work on the back end. Took the rear beam out, had to grind out one of the bolts as it was rusted in. Tank off and all the fuel and brake lines off. Sprayed the underside with soap and water to clean it then grind/sanded back all the rusty bits and then painted with Hammerite direct to metal paint, then sprayed on Hammerite waxoil underbody seal. Looks like new

Also picked up a safety devices half roll cage you can see in the pictures that I will be welding in plates to mount it.

    And the after:

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

Made some good progress on the car this weekend installing the new and refurbished back end.

Over the last couple of weeks I have cleaned up and painted the rear beam. I got some new calipers a few months back so painted the pad carriers although the paint is not too great so will need revisiting. I made new brake lines and also got some braided flex lines, going to finish the brake lines from the flex's to the front after its been painted.

There are also 2 new hand brake cables a set of new discs and wheel bearings, GAZ dampers and green stuff brake pads.

The rear arches are now also seam sealed and sprayed with stone chip shield. F Wegy is finally back on all 4 wheels. Now I need to weld in the roll cage mounting plates and do a few more bits inside and its ready to paint.

the interior stuff is welding and seam sealing etc the shell will get sprayed inside and out then i will put the interior and engine back in. I wanted to get the underside all done so it can sit on wheels in the paint shop and then not get damaged me going under there when its painted.

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

Its been a busy couple of months for me so not got much done on the car, but had a couple of days off this week looking after some builders at home so got some free time to get some bits done.

I got a set of clio seats a while back and have now welded in a length of angle for the inner seat rail to mount on to. The outer rail has a length of box section to bolt between the rail and the floor to make the height up.

The rear seat back clips into the existing GTT top studs. The bottom of the clio seats is also designed to clip onto a stud but the GTT seats don't do this. I found a couple of L brackets at work from some wall speakers, cut one side down a bit, bent it over to line up on the arch, drilled a hole then used a GTT stud with a nut on the back to hold it in place. Welded it in and it works a treat.

The rear seat base slots in the same hinge bits as the GTT.

Welded in floor plates for the roll cage. Stuck the body kit back on with some masking tape to see if it all fits which it seems to and once bolted in with all new mounts on the bumpers etc should look nice and straight

Next job is putting on the side skirt pins rivets and all the bumper mounts to make sure the kit all fits right before it finally gets a complete inside and out respray. Its getting there.

    Some pictures:

    Re: My F Weg Tungy

Got the final bits of prep to get her ready for paint done this weekend, fitted the kit and bumpers properly so I know it all lines and no more cutting or welding to do. Riveted in the new side skirt pins and got it all lined up with new clips, new bumper mounts fitted front and rear. The OE bumpers are getting it looking how I want. Now for paint!

I had two local body shops come and look at my car last week and it should be going in to Autotech Mitcham to get sprayed this week, they are a 2 minute walk from my house so should be able to get some regular pictures of its progress. They recon a couple of weeks to do it so should have it back in time to rebuild over the Christmas break

While the 5 is in the body shop I am stripping down, cleaning and painting the engine and brackets. The cleaning is highly dull as its got 20 odd years of grime all over it, but hopefully the finish paint job should look good

Found a crack in one of the rocker rail bridges but other than that the rest of the internals look in good condition.

    This is how it started:

    stripped

    Cracked rocker bridge

Box of brackets being cleaned up for painting

Car is still at the body shop, they started this week, should have some pictures by the weekend.

Done a bit more on the engine, painted a load of brackets and few other bits in burnt copper VHT and the exhaust manifold in flameproof VHT.
