    My New Jag

I have been looking out for a Series 1 Jaguar XJ6 for a little while now as I wanted some old skool cool. I had a look at a couple, including the Daimler variant and all had signs of the dreaded tin worm or were too expensive for my pocket.

The car I eventually bought was not advertised on the net as the owners didn't have a computer! They were the owners from new. After having a lovely chat and several litres of Tea, we agreed on a price.

    Here she is:

She's not perfect but with some TLC she will be a beaut! The only rust is some surface stuff in the engine bay. It's been garaged its whole life.

Now, where's my flat cap and driving gloves......

I've got a 5.3L V12 daimler "double six" in at the moment for new engine management. It was a very early (1977) electronic fuel injection. It's a 2 door in green. Nice to look at if you like that sort of thing

    Re: My New Jag

Sorry for the late replies, I've been away from home for a little while.

As far as tax goes in Oz, there is no discount for classics, it's all the same. You have to get Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance (which only covers injury costs of the third party, not the car) and Registration which includes any tax.

For CTP and REGO it costs about A$800 (500 quid)!! and I'm 38. Fully Comp insurance (which is added to CTP and REGO is A$350 (230 quid))

The biggest expense seems to be fuel economy as when I picked her up I was getting 8.5 mpg!! I've tuned the twin SUs and she's running a lot better now.

I don't know why but I really want a flat cap, driving gloves and a tweed jacket! It just doesn't feel right when I'm driving her to work wearing a hoody.

I've got a soft spot for the XJ12C and XJ6C, the Daimler variants. I remember buying a copy of Top Car magazine that had an XJ12C that had been given the treatment by Lister, including 7.0 litre V12!

V12s are VERY thirsty, even when running well. Smoother than silk though.

    Re: My New Jag

This is what I would like to do, or at least something similar in the style of Chip Foose (legend).

I also enquired about some custom billet wheels that are similar in design to Series 2 steel wheels. A bit like the wheels below, but they want US$9500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, here's a pic of the Lister XJ Coupe for intrest's sake.

    Re: My New Jag

I'd love to hand my 5 over to chip just to see what he would come up with

A nice set of wheels, some "stance" and shave a few bits and bobs and you're onto a winner
