Late nights are always fun working on the car. But how pleased will you be once its done eh!!

As for the local meet, I need to organise one soon. Am sat on my butt in Kuala Lumpar waiting for a flight home later tonight. But once I am back, need to MOT, tax and insure and mine is ready to go

Is the general consensus to meet b4 or after FCS? I can still pop over yours and have a look at your work though if u wanted

Myself I'd say meet after fcs, but that's because I'd like my 5 at the meet. Your welcome any time to have a cuppa fella, but your better off coming over in May as the car is looking very sorry for itself and all the good bits are either under me bed, on me wardrobe, in me eves or in cupboards the missus loves it

Will you be going to the fcs?

I've just braved the neighbours moaning and got the grinder and powerfile out : my intercooler pipe has been rubbing against the chassis rail and had taken the paint off and slightly dented it too.

So I thought I'd cut and shape in a piece off pipe, I think it was an off cut of stair hand rail I had kicking about. I'm 70% done with it, I just hope it's in the right place pics to follow, as you can't have an update without pictures

Cheers Goobie, if I'm being honest it was your thread that made me go and buy a welder and have a go at it myself. Now I don't think I could be without it.

I went for the Clarke 135te from machine mart on one of there vat free days. I was going to get the 151 but the bloke told me I'd have to put a bigger power source into me shed after getting home I realised that my normal power would be fine unless I'm welding at its maximum. You live and learn. I think mine can weld up to 4mm so more than I need for a anorexic renault

Well 4 1/2 hours later I'm done ready for bed. Doesn't seem like I've done much in that time though

I've burnt more underseal/ paint away from under crossmember, welded in more holes ( I think I've filled in about 35 factory holes so far ) welded in bolts inside scuttle area for my aei, removed the steering column, pedal box etc. I've probably got 90% of the old cellulose paint down to bare metal so not much more to go, I'm going to get all me paint etc Tuesday and hopefully will get some primer on wednesday.

Just spent a small fortune getting all my paint I need. I've also bought a bottle of metal inhibitor that I can apply by brush direct to bare metal, before spraying 2k primer over it. Hopefully I'll have some decent progress pics come the end of the week

awesome work!! I think you should do an article/how to guide when you do the paint - that would be very useful (to me anyway )

I have new parts needing paint, a compressor & spray gun........... but not a clue how to get it done right

I've been all over the net trying to bag myself a 151te turbo for peanuts thanks to you. Just missed out on a decent one on eBay. Just need to play the waiting game as don't want to buy/paid new prices.

I know the feeling, my underside is taking forever..... It's gotta be the worse and time consuming job I've ever done, but over half way now thank god. So temped to just flame thrower the rest off.

What metal inhibitor did you get?

Ps, I think you need todo the power steering mod!

Cheers for the comments tubby, I'll try and take as many step by step pics as I can, then I'll do a mini step by step guide for you not saying it's the right way mind as I'm only a fairly competent diy bodywork person. But it will give you an idea

I used my blow torch on the arch that wasn't connected directly to the inside ( I didn't fancy melting the paint on the interior ). Nasty stuff though make sure you have good ventilation.

I've used some stuff called Ferro bettol. The paint supplies swear by it. I've brushed it on section of my bay and it turns it into a slightly grey ish metal you then just put your primer etc straight over it

I've finally finished all welding to the engine bay, all cellulose paint is stripped back to bare metal and I've just chucked a lavish coating of rust inhibitor everywhere I'm so pleased because I was starting to get to that pissed off point during the stripping part. I don't think It will be dry tomorrow to put a primer over, but I will be primering my shocks, servo, steering rack, driveshafts, gear box, timing chain cover and water pump. Maybe I might just pull this off

My workload is getting bigger I've just ground away the rest of the aftermarket side skirt and offered up the oe skirt and it sits lower than the aftermarket one so I've now got to sand away a load of paint/filler where I'd blended it into the door shut. Which means I've got to blend the new paint into the old something I've not tried before. Oh well good job I've got next week off, hopefully I'll get alot done.

Cheers for your kind comments trevib, I wouldn't normally worry about it but I've only got 41 days to go till the fcs and I'm generally a very slow worker . It just seems I'm having to take more off the car to get ahead the missus just shook her head when I got her to help me take the door off last night still week off now so it's going to be alot of late nights coming up

Well, you can only do what you can do. FCS is great to use as a goal but it's not the end of the world if you don't manage it. Get the work right, that's the main thing

This is true once the bodywork side is finished it will be plain sailing. I'll just put my subframe down and start bolting all my freshly powdercoated/ painted parts on, engine box, suspension, brakes etc then just lift the car over it. I think I can do it

I've managed to prime the front end, gearbox, steering rack, driveshafts, timing chain cover, water pump, gear selector and the shocks today oh and the brake servo. I've just put a dust coat over the top of most of the items, so I know when to stop sanding. Anyhow the obligatory pictures that should follow any update are coming up next

I'm still chuckling now, you funny fecker

Yep it's very relieving now it's in one colour. I've still got to do some filler work over some of the holes that I've welded in, then put seam sealer over the lap joints, then stone chip where's needed, then another coat of primer and then I can put a top coat on and that's without welding on new sills

I'll come over and have a look when it's moved on a bit further

As for mine - will be taking it for an MOT next week as it ran out in March, then I just need to tax and insure it. Sounds simple lol.

There are a few jobs on it that I need to do but nothing too major really.
