was just a suggestion if you wanted to keep costs down. it seems your fairly handy and time costs nothing if its your own car, they arent big jobs.
like you say the skirts would require some work now, but again its more prep time than money. blow in's can be very easy if you are familiar with the paint gun, there's a few ways and dont mind giving a few pointers to try if your stuck.

regards the dizzy, yes. so long as you can rotate the pump from above (like the bottem of the dizzy does), but not engage the gear on the cam. there's different 'tools' that will do the job. just spin it up, not with the drill flat out mind, until you get oil flow and it'll be fine after that, assuming it is just because its dry and no damage has been done.

Again thanks for this information, ill try the oil through the oil filter first because that sounds easier, but will bear this in mind.

Im thinking i could cut the skirts of with an angle grinder up to 10mm before the door shut and then carefully grind away at the skirt to bring it close to the door shut (not sure this makes sence ) im hoping that i could then get away with having to paint the doorshut because there will be a rubber joint with the oe skirt ?? am i right here.
I will pick your brain though if i need to blend in mind cheers

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!

Ive finally worked on the 5, the 1st time since aug 2011
Anyway ive made some doorcards, there only basic but im pleased with them all the same and only cost me £50 in materials. I didnt want to do what everyone does and turn the original handle 90 degrees, so i went to the scrap yard and got something abit different.

Ill let the pics do the talking now.

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!

Not been able to do alot to the 5 just lots of 30 min stints here an hour there so progress is slow

I got a standard rear bumper, tailgate and spoiler to try and tame the rear end down only paid peanuts for the bumper as it needed abit of work, so thats what ive been working on mainly.
    Pics,

Someone had tried to fill the bump strips in but had done a less than impressive job, i dug the lot out with a screw driver

i also found this which i had to repair, and a few hairline cracks

Im not going to ditch the centre exit exhaust so i had to cut out the middle and transfer it over to where original exhaust hole was.

It seems like ive spent an age on this bumper, but im 90% done on the fillering/shaping, then got to prime it then block that down then prime again then paint. On a plus side ive found ive still got all the paint ill need plus thinners, hardners etc so ive not got to spend anything on that side
Soz about the num of pics.

Cheers Tony, ive killed me 50mm DA sander whilst working on this bumper and i can only use my 150mm DA for about 30 seconds before i have to stop and let me 50 litre compressor build up enough pressure to go again for another 30 seconds , so most of it is by hand

You'll be pleased to know I made a trip to the tip and off loaded my aftermarket spoiler/rear bumper, the rear looks bare but so much better & I won't feel a tw@t when it's on the road. I also tried cutting out the plate on the flush tailgate but found a heap of mess that I can't be bothered to rectify, off to Mike's next week to get some bits

Love this car, even with the spoiler & sideskirts. Can't imagine how fresh it will look with OE parts in place

Cheers for the comments Steve L, Jrp & Alan

Been to see Mike 16v this week, got a few bits to aid me when i shorten my i/c pipe run and also some new number plate lights, also got a standard campus tailgate.

Finished the shaping of the bumper just got to give it a lick of high build primer hopefully next week at some point. Spent a few hours today cutting the bumper to fit the exhaust, got to find someone that can weld me in a piece of s/steel into me heatshield
As always lots of pics sorry.

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!

Got a engine hoist off me m8 yesterday, I'm going to take front engine mount off and drop the sump tonight and pack the oil pump with Vaseline, oh and put the spring washer in the right place I've found a welder 2miles from me who does alot of parts for motorsport use, anyway I got him to sort my exhaust heat shield, make me an alloy fusebox cover and got him to weld in some leaks I found on my intercooler (God knows how much pressure I was losing ). I will also get him to weld my boost pipes once I cut them ( I'm going to shorten my pipe run ) hopefully next week.

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!

Well it started ok but ended in tears the sump bolt that's hard to get too at the front started to round off I'm hoping I'll get better access ( & hope it's not too fecked ) by taking the radiator out of the way, I've dropped the water but called it a night as I didn't want to be laying in a puddle. Anyone got any tips if this bolt is buggered. I've only this week had to drill out a 12mm diameter 70mm long suspension bolt on my daily because it was rounded off, took me 3 hours to finally chip it all out

3/8ths socket/spanner is the next size down between 10mm and 9mm.... never fails
But try single hex 10mm first.

/\/\/\ this, or if you get really stuck I have some special sockets that grip & bite into the head.

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!

Small up date with lots of pics. ive shortened my boost run frm intercooler to carb, moved my rad over then got stuck in cutting the pipes to shape. Then when i put rad back in id completely forgotten about the outlet hose on rad it was bang in the way so i cut this off and shaped it to fit the rad but on the corner. I had the boost pipe welded today, but the man couldn't do the rad right away so ive got to wait a few days.

    Pics, soz camera is dying

Yes i will be replacing the rusty washer

not what i wanted to do, but needs must

    Heatshield now fixed

My fuse box cover, got to polish it up still

Don't go giving me ideas fellas. It doesn't look so orange when your up close, with the bonnet down that is Nottswoody i utilised the pipes I already had to make it smaller then got it welded up. I've ordered a 90 degree elbow off ebay to tidy the pre intercooler side, I want to get rid of as many clips as I can.
