im having trouble with it idleing tho, coming up to junctions/rounabouts it seems to stall 80% of the time unless i keep a little throttle on,

the car has sat for a while and today had its first long run in a while, it drives fine and boosts perfect (well i think so) but its just the idleing that lets it down, can anyone point me in the rite direction to what it possibly might be?

    sorry for the neewbie questons,

    Thanks all

    Re: Hi all..

Yes it'll probably be carb related.

Does is still have an idle mixture screw? They fall out sometimes.

    Dirt in the idle jet.

Also could be air leaking into the carb due to wear of the spindle shaft seals or the base being a bit warped.

A factor could also be corroded joins in the electrical current path to the ECU + feed or / and earthing.

    Thanks for the fast replys..

It still does have the idle screw in. I have tried upping it but still seems to want to stall,

The car has sat around on a drive for a while. So poss blocked idle jet how easy is this to check?

    Re: Hi all..

The idle jet is inside a large brass holder on one side of the carb.

Take that out with a wide screw driver and it comes apart. There is often a small brass rod in there rattling. That will just fall out so open it carefully. The idle jet just just pulls out of the holder.

Blow it through with some brake cleaner aerosol or whatever and see if that makes it any better.

27 & 28 on the right of the drawing; 2nd pic down: https://www.rtoc.org/boards/showthread.php?t=27381

Can been seen in the middle of the side in the 3rd pic down. Round brass with slot for wide screw driver.

    Re: Hi all..

it was fine when 1st started, but then after the motorway run to get it home and it was hot it was cutting out when pulling upto junctions, also when it would idle when hot it was hunting alot. I did notice one hole was filled with sealent. If your looking at carb from o/s of car under the fuel pipe is a flat head to the side, well below that is another hole and this is sealed up?

Not ideal. It's a bodge to stop the screw falling out. It may or may not stop it backing off from the correct setting. So the setting may be not correct. The way to find that out is take the car to an MOT station and have / pay them to measure the CO and Lambda. If it's wrong, they can't adjust until the Silicone is dug out.

You should try cleaning the idle jet first.

Thankyou for your help. It was the idle jet that was blocked. Cleaned it and she idles spot on again.

And you've possibly saved from potential garage costs more than the cost of membership within just your first eight posts?
