    Re: Best Mod And Why???

I think for me it was chucking in a bucket seat and harnesses.

Without a set of those, there's no way you can feel what the car is doing properly. Either on the road or the track, getting to the ultimate edge of the cars performance (whatever you've done to it), feeling the tyres bite the tarmac and truly understanding the GTT.

You just can't do it with any sort of precision whilst hanging onto the steering wheel to stop yourself falling off the crappy standard chairs! Yes, we can all make them go fast, but its the handling and the feel that counts

Or maybe I just drive mine too fast...

    not something ive done but....

best mod would be a nitrous kit.

you could add it to any engine inc a std engine and you could basically get as much power as the clutch would allow before it gave up.....

I liked the rollerbearing t28, got the car moving a treat with low lag. Also good on fuel if you took it easy.

Stand alone engine management - the new ignition map alone transforms the drive ability.

    Re: Best Mod And Why???

    From a completely standard car:

    Mongoose exhaust, inc turbo pipe.

The existing extra boost helped a bit but nowhere near as much as after this pipe was fitted. A step change in get up and go.

Further significant tweaks in this vein were the cup mod and the T3 actuator with -12 spring, a larger compressor wheel fitted to a bored housing, then increasing to 15psi at the manifold.

Koni shocks and 175 lb springs, followed by 250lb springs.

15 inch wheels with decent rubber.

Then a cam, dished pistons, skimmed head, mahoosive turbo and crazy boost, 2 1/2 side exit. I think more drivable around the suburbs where I live would have been a VNT.

Me Dave, I get what you're saying there, I went the other way and fitted Clio Williams seats to the 5GTT. Fitted onto 5GTT subframes. Very good side support kept me in the seat instead of bouncing out of the standard seat all the time, and good comfort. I was cornering harder and faster with more ease as the seats were providing an 'insulation' from the harshness and feedback that you're talking about.

id go with weight saving and take off everything thats not needed, dash etc...everything,i wonder what the weight saving would be if you did remove 'everything'?,but still keeping car looking standard from outside.

your all wrong if you want to make the car faster its a limited slip diff. Not shiney not sexy invisable but the most effective modification.

well there is always a downside. Depends how much you can do yourself. Mine is a gripper and needs a shortened nearside driveshaft. For road use I would suggest you stipulate a low level of preload. The first roundabout you negotiate with the diff fitted is a driving experience you will never forget. You really think that you are going to crash into the central island as the front of the car pulls around the corner.

Lsd would be good, but with the weak gearboxes blowing up every few thousand miles its too much money

    Re: Best Mod And Why???

Ive run the gripper as a daily car and fairly competetive sprint car driving to and from the events for at least 6 years. I havnt blown a gearbox but the original one started to jump out of second but that was after 150K miles. When I drive I very rarely use engine braking.

Mine would be my AFR gauge. Its gives me peace of mind that everything is ok with my engine generally, and when driven hard. It also makes it a whole lot easier to set it up myself.

On a standard car I'd say either upping the boost to 1 bar or Koni suspension.
