What's the point in having a slammed motor and a wel tuned engine... IMO raise it a little and enjoy the boost.

No it isn't. This one is off a Dacia, had to file out 2 holes and drill 2 and it fits perfectly!

The guard looks pretty good on the pic but reality is pretty different! I'm sure if i didn't put it under i would have wreck a fair few sumps by now

Re: Tutuur's Renault 9 project thread!

Going to update soon when i have some more time but all i can say is: WOW!

I now am more agitated the 9 didn't make it last weekend because of a stupid short to mass which was solved in 10mins....

Driven it a bit easy yesterday and been mapping transients and low load fuel cells.
In the afternoon mapped the higher load fuel cells and and tweeked the ign. Map i had made a little bit.

It drives awesome now, idles smooth around 900rpm without idle valve, runs perfectly smooth from low rpm's etc.
Currently set to 7-8 psi and it goes! Just manages to keep grip on the front wheels, that is on dry asphalt, with quaife and 195 pirelli tires

Only need to buy a smaller clutch master cylinder now, strengthen the clutch setup, fit a new fuel pump (bigger), bigger injectors (575->630) and fab a 3" exhaust system.

Hopefully it'll be done for a while and get to map it to 21psi or the likes

I really don't bother anymore, had an awesome weekend anyway!

Clutch is getting better atm although i still need to order a smaller master cylinder.
Have been driving alot in the past few days

Connected a launch control switch and wiring yesterday, omg i'm sure the turbocharger doesn't like it!! Also hooked up the afr meter to the megasquirt so i can datalog afr's too.

Also gave the car a quick clean and wax, something i haven't done since i own it, what a difference! Does look funny though, shiney/mirror like panels with rust holes in it

I will be mapping it myself mate, probably going to up the boost coming weekend, although i di still have to make the 3" exhaust too as this one is too restrictive.

I hope to have the car final mapped by Scoff once, not really any tuners here i can thrust or who are good priced..

5 deg you say. I have mine set to 10deg btdc at mo to be safe but was reading on ms forums and was suggested to run atdc but I didn't really want to do that. Mine retards to 10deg btdc at 3750 and limited to 5k think il try going 5deg btdc as I'm not getting any flames just gunshot loud bangs

If you have that much difference between hard cut and soft cut does it bounce up and down between them?

When i had 100rpm difference it was like paaaapaaapaaa now it more like tatatatata if that makes sense

Think that may be my problem then both with the launch limits and rev limits as I have 200rpm difference with my rev limit and it just sounds white and dosnt reach the hard cut.

Are you you using the variable launch function or fixed? I have been using variable but you still need to set a max rpm for it for the hard cut but that could be miles away from where you press the button to just retard the ign

don't know about fixed or variable.

just launch control in tunerstudio, set it to 4950 and 5000
retard to 5 degrees or 0 if you want to go nuts and cut 5/7 or 7/7 sparks...

Re: Tutuur's Renault 9 project thread!

    Honda coil on plug fitted:

Turned the boost up to 1,3bar (19psi) and she now spins the front wheels in 3rd have to wait for 2 new coils though as when heatsoaked they misfire...

Als made a new lh driveshaft as the first one we made was pretty shitty:

Also welded 12 m8 nuts on the inner cv for the speedo, will have to fab a new bracket though as the trial bracket wrecked the sensor it did work though, for 100m...

Yes full 3". I've made a trail bracket to test the setup and it worked, shame the bracket wasn't really sturdy so wrecked the sensor... (Original sensor indeed)

have you soldered all the wiring for the coils and move them earth wires off the rocker cover and refit them on side of the head where the dizzy cap was might help.

The strange thing is everything works flawless when cold.....

If everything is heatsoaked and i change the coils with cold ones it runs fine untill it heatsoaks again.
Think i'll try to run wires externally to rule out a wiring fault.

Have you swapped it back to the leads just to rule out its any other faults? If not, could be worth a try to confirm its coil fault.

Re: Tutuur's Renault 9 project thread!

    hmmmm loving the car tuts
may i make a few suggestions if your going for more power

ditch the o.e two stage throttle, they are sooo restrictive , and maybe aftermarket higher lift cams as scoff suggested way back!! the megane, valver cams are quite laim, the williams being the best of the bunch, but not really that much better inlet wise than the valver, the exhaust cam is worth keeping as it has a good balance of lift/duration( mine measured 9.2mm) with almost the same duration as the valver which could help with overlap if you where to run a bigger aftermarket inlet cam glad to see the 3" exhaust system, that will help also, but the cast manifolds flow/reversion on cylinder 2 is not good as is the t2 flange size, but you already knew that

was thinking of using the vw speedo pick up sensor in the 02m gearbox and re -wiring into my aftermarket speedo as it is a magnetic pickup type, running of the diff (7 or 8 teeth) if i remember?) im using a abs ring on the front hub at the moment, which is a bit slow, but could be the speedo unit i suppose

the strut arms on the front wishbone mod will also make a big difference to how the car grips, help put the power down, (couldnt see them on your wishbone pic)

i need to get my workshop built and carry on doing my 5, im missing the boost
