    rotten raider project...

after not owning this for 5 years, i brought it back from a freind for a decent price, the inner and outer sills were gone, as was the boot quarter, bumper brackets, and inner arch tub, me being tight, and not wanting to pay a stupid amount of cash to get a body shop to do it set about grinder in hand, brought a welder, lots of sticker flex, and set to work, heres as it stands.....

tucked up ready to be stripped..

the welder i got from machine mart, £300 vat free day special with a proper dimmer mask..

set to work doing the inner and outer sills, made my own inners up and theanks to bigfoot for the link to buy the sills...

welded the drivers side up, made new jacking point up, and under silled the lot..

    Re: rotten raider project...

then set to work on the rear, its not pretty mt welding as im no pro, just a novice, but ill have a go and fabricated the rear panel, bumper bracket, boot floor, and arch tub..

if it was seen id have given it to a body shop to do and have my bootm slapped on the price, but i have a young family to pay for, so im on a tight budget

cracked open the hammerite oxford blue, and went to town with it, aswell as the stickaflex and under sill...

then stuck whats left of the skirt back on

    after..

and brought a few service items..

and a pair of 175 50 13 dunlop sp sports to keep it low..

they finish the car of a treat, once the welding is finished next week, it should be back on all fours, and ready to burn out, apart from the turbo now being wrecked

Your car is looking sweet, makes me want a standard ish looking one.
Good luck with the door pin removal tool ive got the same tool but i had a stubborn roll pin and ended up ruining the little pin that drops through, ended up getting another pin and she eventually went, the other side was very easy iirc though,

the mig has been fantastic, and with the vat free offer only cost £300 with the mask, it was ideal for the shockingly thin metal floor pans and bits that burn threw easy, the rest of the car and all welds were covered in a thick seam of sticker flex, so it shouldnt rot for a few years

door pins are fitted, and of to collect my new white clock set in the morning , then just a case of fitting the turbo tues/weds, then the project is 99% done

The Compomotive Turbos suite it perfectly I've been looking at some for mine but I'll feel like a copy cat now

machine mart tools are under rated, and the mig welder i brought was as good as a snap-on i i have used before

this is about the 4th time welding a car, only problem with renaults is the thickness of the steel, you can somtimes have it on the lowest output and still burn a hole

well after a bit more work, ive got the arch and petrol cap painted, and fitted to the wip..

went down the local renault garage, proper old school place, and got some of there plates made, i think there better than french metal plates, plus i cant be bothered with the police

then the best part turned up in the post, a fully rebuilt t28 turbo, new rear housing, polished inlet, new exhaust wheel and shaft, stagger gap and 360 thrust bearings, the works...

im going to sleep next to this turbo tonight, and just stair at it in ore

after a bit of faffing around, and a few jerry cans of fuel, and fitting the new turbo on, it moved under its own steam agian, seems weird that the project is finished already, only thing im going to invest in is a new cat 1 alarm and imob, and get a scratch done on the door and bumper over the next few months..

    heres the final product..
