    Impressed with the fueling.

Before hand with even the slightest of throttle and it would drop straight into the 10's afr off boost

    It was fueling 11.4 WOT,

    it now has

    120 Main jet
    1Mm air corrector
    1.3Mm second stage

Fuels so much better off boost, and a steady 12.2 at WOT

Seems to go a lot better also

Gotta love the rtoc carb articles

    Re: My First R5 GTT

So ive been off work due to my rubbish knee being broken. But im back this week.

My aim for pod day is...

Get a patch of rust sorted.

Sort some bucket seats for the front

Get a front mount intercooler for that extra coule psi

    Lower it a couple inches.

Whilst been off ive managed to take the back bech out. I was really impressed with how clean the boot was under the carpet!!

The time has come to pull my finger out and get the car sorted. She's going to Haz next week for some body work whilst I do some work on the engine side of things with some pointers... Picking some bucket seats up at the weekend. So should be minty fresh for pod. Pics to follow in the next few week!

    Re: My First R5 GTT

Hi all, car has been dropped off with Haz at Nocturnal Developments ready for alot of work to be carried out in giving the Phase 1 a face lift.

The main reason was to have a look at a rust patch that i have been concerned about. Also to spray my kit and have a general tidy up!

After stripping window and seals on the NS rear QT this is the patch i was concerned about!

So with that job was to take part of kits of and search for rust. Happy to find we found none! YAYYY . So we plodded on stripping alot of the car down.

Ending up with most bits off! All ready for prep work and spraying. Due to kit being sun bleached and tired.

Stripped very badly damaged seats out ready for some nice Cobreau seats to go in.

Found a couple of cracks on the front bumper towing eye area which will be repaired before prep work and spraying.

Prepared the tail for body work... We will continue tomorrow!

Also have cleaned under the outer seal on the window screen to make sure no rust was present or starting. It was filthy!

All spray work being carried out by Haz and im just helping with the donkey work!

Good to catch that rust early. Great that the rest is clear

Are the sills and bumper mounting areas all ok then?

    Re: My First R5 GTT

Hi trev, yeah the underneath is solid. With a think underseal. Sills inner and out are mint, which is why I've jumped on it really quick so nothing else is affected. Really happy with the no rust situation cause it means I can splash out on other areas making it look nice and fresh. Bumper mount all amazingly good condition, don't think it's ever been off either no clips broken or anything. We took an arch off and there was some minty fresh phase 1 decal under there . So looks like I've got lucky all in all!

    Re: My First R5 GTT

When we went to have a look at the car the only bit of rust I could find was the patch shown! even tho the bodywork wasn't the best I knew it was a good buy purely because of how solid the whole shell was

Now the kits off and there still isn't any rust that's made my day, I cannot stress how good a shell this car is. It has definatly spent a long time off the road at some point in it's life.

A good bit of work done today also guys, just wish I could be there to help out........

I'm just there to oversee really as I'm unsure how far I want Haz to go with it. Plus I've been giving the engine a good clean up and fitting some fancy new bits.

Flushed the coolant system using Ashys dishwater tablet method. Worked very well! Cheers bud. Fitted the new header tank and will be filled with nice coolant tomorrow after I've finished work.

    Re: My First R5 GTT

Went in to see Haz after work and took some photos of what he has been upto today (some of it)

Couple shots of the rust being taken back, not gone to far gladly. Happy got on top before it became too serious

A shot of the bumper mounts just cleaned down ready for the bumper again.

Couple of repairs to the front bumper

The boot lid after some filling for old spoiler holes... Looks like its had a gay tech on there at some point...

A shot of an arch repair too!

Theres plenty more too, big thanks to Haz for paying attention to detail and taking out all little niggles on the kit etc. Hes a top lad and does very good quality of work. The plan for the kit is to spray it satin black, in a special stiple effect paint. Haz was saying O.E is a very dark shade of grey as appose to black. Imo they look better black anyway.

Fitted a new header tank after flushing the coolant system. Thanks to Shackal for a fast product and car.crash aka marc for some hose bits what were needed .

Should have this turned round quickly. Thanks chaps.

    Re: My First R5 GTT

So flew down to the unit to have a chat with Haz and see what he had been upto.

Heres the grille before the refurb.

This is the grille minus the badges (being refurbed and sprayed) afterwards.

Then a close up so you can see the stiple effect is still visable.

I think these look awesome. Top job done.

Went to pick the car up from Haz. Im not the best with a camera but heres a few shots. Bad weather never helps.

Re cap. Haz did a rust patch refurb and has fully refurbed all outer plastics. Repaired then sprayed. Maintaining that o.e stipled effect.

Massive thanks to Chris (Haz) for the work undertaken, at competetive prices. Would send my 5 to him again in a heartbeat. Cheers buddy

    Re: My First R5 GTT

So seen as though my car is in a million bits i thought i may aswell say why and what im doing. After Scoffs RR day (quality day by the way) I popped a HG on the way home.

Whilst taking my car apart i noticed that the person who had it before me really did not set it up fantastically. So while its in bits i thought i may aswell eliminate all contributing factors. The head was not torqued correctly and had lifted. All pistons seen coolant

With that i stripped the head and sent it away for a resurface and all the valve seats to be done. Full job, decided to not bother with valve stem seals because i rev the car to over 7 grand anyway so they would be mulered anyways. Because the head was pretty skinny, i asked the chap to take a little out of the combustion chamer just to keep the compression down.

With that i decided to then fit a new adjustable fuel pressure regulator, cheers brigsy. Making sure tht fuel is good for high boost. Once that was done the head went on again and was torqued up to 75nm.

Now the next step which im curently doing isto fit a nice big intercooler to keep hem charge temps down. Many thanks to DaveReed for that. Nice piece of kit. The cooler will be flipped round this is to show the size of it. Beeeeast

Plans for the car are to get a new turbo when i can afford it and to get back to scoffs to do some more of this

Love the back end with the stiple effect Ph2 rear spoiler. Always wanted to see how that would look on a Ph1. Mine was colour coded, which was ace too.

    Re: My First R5 GTT

still not 100% if the bumper will go on once the cooler is bolted into place, the crossmember has already gone I felt like I was committing a crime when I chopped it out

chopped it out in one piece so if it ever does get returned to o,e it can be welded back into place quite easly I would have thought.

we won't be cutting the phase 1 bumper tho, got a phase 2 one to cut and get haz to paint the stipple effect to match the rest. That is of course if the original one won't go on, it looks to close to call.

with josh's there was only a small hole that had gone through, no point taking a welder to it just yet as it would only blow through the thin metal. properly cleaned up and fibreglass either side.
have seen the pics of yours though, i'd say a fair bit will fall in when you start cleanin it up so will want a few little peices putting in, also, where the rot is by the pedal is the top of the jacking plate panel so i'd have thought that would want looking at too.

josh, regards the bumper, if it catches it will be the same for both ph1 or 2 bumpers, keep it looking oe and i'll fettle the back

    Re: My First R5 GTT

Some pictures from the whole build.

This is a shot of the bay as it was before i broke it...

Popped a HG on cylinder no4. Due to leaning out and doing a 130 mph pull in 5th. On private roads of coarse. Dont need to be DR DET to figure that picture out haha.

Slow process of taking the car to bits and really trying to improve the spec instead of just chucking some bolts and a gasket in then breaking it again in a few month... days

Asked the guy at the engineers shop to take some out of the combustion chamber as the head is getting skinny @ 72.4mm... re surface, valves re seated and all that carry on.

SO we got the car running again this weekend, got her upto temp. Next weekend ill sort out the tappets and re torque the head bolts. Tax the car, knock the boost down and get it to scoffs for setting up fuel wise with the new fuel pressure regulator. Hopefully it will make some decent power... time will tell.

    Re: My First R5 GTT

Seriously, looking at all the headwork that's been done and with the new bits, and going off the previous times its been on the rollers and how it wants to carry on making power the more it's revved if you can get the boost upwards of 22lb it should easily make over 200hp, probably more towards 230

A very well sorted gtt indeed, zero rot the straightest gtt shell I have ever laid eyes on with a well sorted lump, just needs some coilovers, lowering a touch and some rims, either something Renault, of some sort of ats/starmag 13's

Update on my car, 6ish month ago I took my car to scoffs. Unfortunately my turbo let go on the rollers. So I've been saving for a new turbo. My cars now set up for 18psi but I want to push more to get a 12 sec run at Santa pod. I'm at scoffs on the 14th to check for det and make final fuel adjustments. Hopefully getting my power figures to translate to times on track. A few pics for your delegation
