    new car queries

well folkes my old diesel hack tis gone
only to be replaced with my new(to me) smurf blue 182

however i have a few concerns
the suspension feels very nervous especialy at speed the cars been lowered in eibach springs and i suspect the standard shocks are dead due to this as they feel as if the car is wobbling on the springs

what im wondering is would the standard cup suspension fit my car or is there to many diffrences ?
the car was advertised as a clio rs but i suspect that just means renaultsport

    any thoughts ?help appreciated

Right, 182s have 2 types of suspension which have 2 hub spacings 54mm and 60mm. 60mm hub bolt spacing means you have the cup pack suspension fitted.

Weird, as looking at your picture you have a front splitter but not a cup spoiler, you also have silver 182 wheels so i'd hazard a guess that it's NOT cup packed suspension... a guess. 182 with cup packed suspension have anthracite wheels, the bog standard 182s DIDNT have the splitter, spoiler or the cup suspension therefore the 54mm hub bolt centres.....

Trouble is after a few years and change of owners people fit anthracite wheels to std 182s or buy the splitter 2nd hand and/or purchase a 2nd cup spoiler.

Measure the hub bolt centres, that will give you the definitive answer

    Re: new car queries

    thanks very much
the front splitter is of something other than a cup (its got two woodscrews holding it on)

its not a cup as the interiors not the basic sort
will measure the hubs when back at work next week
i assume you mean the distance between the bolts at the bottom of the shocks where it meets the hub

if its not a cup what would be my best option change the hubs or replace with standard 182 stuff?

If it's not cup suspension it's better in the way that you have more choice in aftermarket suspension, to be fair you won't go far wrong in buying all new genuine Renault dampers if you're just looking at replacing.

Yep the 2 bolts at the bottom of the damper, centre to centre measurement. You have the 'full fat' model although the 182 cup also came in Racing Blue, the only other colour the 182 cup came in was Inferno Orange.

    Thanks Richard
The cars going to be my daily hack so I fancy a return to
Totally standard springs and shocks as I would hope they would
Be up to the odd track day yet a decent road set up

Looking to sort it out next week as I promised myself a few days
Out of working clothes this weeks holiday

    Re: new car queries

My rear nearside shock had gone making the car feel really sketchy round bends or over bumps, changed the suspension & a rear shock had blown, didn't feel like it had anything in it
Good news is the shocks & springs are really easy to replace, took me about an hour with a jack, axle stands & a halfords socket set.

    Re: new car queries

whenever i buy a new motor i stick it on a good tracking machine, often i find the car might drive straight but handle like a bag of sh1te.. my new golf run abouts the same, drove straight but the wheels were toeing in and the camber was pi55ed..

now we go in a straight line and corner without me thinking my lwb vans better..

the clios great on the handling side so somethings missing, you should always feel that "take that you cnut" feeling in the corners, as you can always go faster and harder..

in most renault 5s i close my eyes thinking im gonna die

Keep the Eibach springs if there's nothing wrong with them, they're a nice upgrade to std springs and give a slightly lower drop. New dampers all round too will be good enough for the odd track day.
