    Raider Restoration, Back to OE

Well it begins, Heres couple of pics of the car being picked up/saved from the scrap yard

Well this is the the state of her at pick up.Had a chat with couple of guy at the scrap yard and the story goes a young guy bought the car to the yard 2 half years ago as a project,
He had to give up on due to having baby, apparently he had it for the last 12 years in dry storage which i found hard to belive till i looked at the tax disc.

So maybe it has maybe it has't but guess when get it home and stripped will find out the state the body is in then ill know.

First looks not to bad the engine has been removed and part stripped and in the boot of the car along with most of the rest of the trim and parts looks a right mess in there.

Had a small knock at some point to n/s front light socket so that will be needing some attention.

There a few boy racer parts that will be up for sale soon vented bonnet, alloys and new lowered suspension and a 4" exhaust system and a funny looking front bumper and morette twin head lights.
Looking forward to the weekend to get started on her.

Re: Raider Restoration, Back to OE

Well managed to get stuck in today and got most the car well stripped without finding to many horrors.

Here you can see best part of engine bay stripped note n/s headlight area had a dodgy repair at some point just the gearbox left to come out.

Next got the car up in the air to get the underside stripped and see how bad the sills were going to be and any other suprises

Well after getting her kit off shes not in to bad nick as you can see only couple of small holes in o/s sill and rear bumper brackets need a little attention. But think its going to be the front panel thats going to give me the most problems at the mo.

But will leave that for now and get the fuel, brake lines and everything else from underneath off

fuel tanks off again no nasty suprises just the lines brake compensator and fuel pump and shell be clear ready for treatment.

Now its well stripped been quite lucky with corrosion i think very suprised so maybe it has been in dry storage after all.

Re: Raider Restoration, Back to OE

Yeah going to be doing everything myself apart from paint, First job i think is to cut the front panel out where its had a knock before and replace can get whole new front panel for £127 will be less work then trying to straighten out the existing.

Once thats done and sort the small bits of rust on sills will start from the underside and work my way up going to replace every nut and bolt for new where possible

Re: Raider Restoration, Back to OE

Few hours on her today managed to get the front panel off, had to go back as far as the strut on n/s as wasnt worth saving, Also got the box and drive shafts out.

    after front panel removed

next was before and after got rid of n/s arch and box/driveshafts

looking bare upfront now, next will be getting wire brush/grinder back out to have a good clean round the car top and bottom to make sure havnt missed anything then will be time to prep ready for the welder to come out

Havn't got a set date to be finished, cant rush these things, just love the buzz seeing it come back to life, but once the front panel is back on and little bits of rust sorted thats the worse bit over in my opinion. will seal and treat the underside once thats done, strip the inside out and anything else left then the shell will be off to paint shop.

Re: Raider Restoration, Back to OE

Finally got the camera back, Been having issues getting all the front end parts that we needed from renault so after a trip to mike at gt turbo spares i was the owner of a complete 5 front end, This made quite a bit more work as i had to then cut the piece i needed out which i needed for mine, This took the best part of a day drilling out the old spot welds trimming and shaping to get the spot on fit for mine, After being happy with the fitment out come the welder to finally be adding to the car rather then taking away Along with fitting the front end in i also patched up the small holes in the sills wasn't bad enough for them to need replacing

So thats where am upto at the mo waiting for some seam sealer to arrive to go over all the welding few more bits/wiring to remove ready for paint in the mean time i started striping the interior out

Hopefully over easter will get a chance to do a bit more.

Re: Raider Restoration, Back to OE

Well with work commitments bringing the restore to a holt for the last month or so, managed a bit of time on her, nothing major just a bit more bodywork tidying up,finally managed to get battery tray out after removing almost entire dash, whoever decided to put two fixing nuts up behind the top of the dash for the tray needs poking in the eye!! with that out the way could repair and patch under the tray this hopefully will be the last of the welding dare i say it lol, seam sealed all the welding, and the time consuming job of removing all the pipe, wire and hose clips from the engine bay, last of the interior came out along with windows.Doors and boot decided not worth messing with so mike at gt turbo spares will be sorting me shortly with these, Spoke to my sprayer and going to take the shell to him in about 3-4 weeks so need to get windscreen removed and a last blast through with wire brush, decide weather to treat/paint under body before trip to paint shop or after as axle and subframe will be out once back from paint.

    Couple more pics

Re: Raider Restoration, Back to OE

Couple of pics of the pearl that was suppose to be for spares, but after having a chat with the body shop managed to do deal on getting the raider sprayed.and the bodywork repaired and spray job of the pearl.

There was a lot more work needed doing then first expected on the pearl
    As follows

Inner seals looking at both sides

Brand new outer seals both seals

    New windscreen surround

Plus couple of miner bits here and there around the arches and doors

So they got so far with it we decided in for a penny in for a pound decided to gut it and go right through. So they phoned me Xmas eve to say they pretty much done just needs putting back together and should be ready for me 1st week in the new year. So hers what it's like at the mo.

Well got the pearl back on Friday night from the body shop, So got it up on the lift and decided best thing to do first would be to seam seal the new sills and the arches that they sorted for me, im dying to get it back together and finally have one of these projects on the road but I'd be a fool to rush it now, so once the seam sealer has gone off I will give the whole lot one more go over with underbody sealer hopefully then that should be the last of it and i can finally start putting it back together. Few more pics

I found using double sided foam tape on the rear spoiler worked perfectly (assuming the lugs have been removed from the back of the spoiler). You couldn't tell by looking at it and it didn't budge 1mm in the time I owned it. Plus it means you can line the spoiler up exactly where you want it to sit. Note that I did this on a ph1, so the tailgate was flush/flat with no holes etc.

Can't wait to see the pics. Pearl is a lush colour.
