    Perc Fan

    everyone goes on about the anti perc fan catching fire and stuff,, iv still got mine but it worries me. seen a few vids on youtube of fires and stuff ..

    but its original and i qwite like having it

    Its simpler to lose it, but hot starting does get a bit problematic.
    Never heard about it being a direct cause of an engine fire tho

    re-wire it with heavy cable and fit a 15A fuse inline with it.

    the loom goes up in smoke when the fan siezes. Renault didn't think to fit a fuse, it was bodged with a recall to fit a fuse. some car's have the fuse while others don't.

    still, as above, the cable wants to be heavier to make sure the fuse blows rarther than setting the loom alight.

    Scoff is 100% percent correct there. Mine has a fuse as fitted by the Renault recall but still remember sitting in a traffic jam and watching smoke poor out the bonnet as the wiring melted rather than the fuse going.

    sounds like a little job to do next weekend if its not raining.

    fit some nice wire and put a 15amp fuse inline

    or on other hand u instead of removin or re wiring, just unplug it so it wont go wrong but itll still be there

    I though it was a 10 amp fuse?
    I remember taking mine to work just as i had got it driving again after the resto and 4 years off the road, took it to work and parked it round the back outside the workshop, stated to smell something burning lifted the door and smoke was pouring out from my bonnet, took the battery off and saw there was the remains of a 30 amp fuse in the melted fuse holder, only damage was to the wiring and perc fan, got it all sorted now though.

    It could be 10A but I think the blower will take a bit more than that to start up. 15A is what renault fitted in the recall. if you do as I say and use thicker cable then the 15A fuse will blow ok if you don't use the thicker cable then you run the risk of the cable going on fire before the fuse blows.
