Yeah i use a slide hammer to pull the torsion bars out or if there very stiff a large socket, high tensile bolt, washer and nut to gentle prize them out

If there really stuck i find a decent punch and a 14lbs hammer
    Work well
Just hammer them through from the one side works a treat

Can you get the torsion bars out completely with the arches in place? It looks as if they are in the way?

No need to pull bars out completey, only need to pull them out enough so the splines fall out of there holders

just to add.. no need to pull them out completely providing you do pull them out rather than whack both all the way out of one side

Re: lowering the rear r5 turbo

I need to get them out as the last person that had a go at mine snapped a bolt in one of the bars, so I was planning on taking the good one out then knocking the knackered one out from the other side and replacing it with a spare I have.

Ah thats cool, yeah remove the arech just to make sure you don't damage it. It could just squeeze past the arch but better be safe then sorry

Re: lowering the rear r5 turbo

I want to make my rear higher. Got a slide hammer but if that fails I will try the bolt and washer method. Need to get a bolt from somewhere though.

Re: lowering the rear r5 turbo

you could cut the torsion bar,cut a section out and smash it the other way..inwards?
then clean up splines and source a secondhand bar,or just use another beam.

Re: lowering the rear r5 turbo

Seeing as you've got the other side out, just get a club hammer and hit it through the other side (you could probably use the other bar to hit it with) . Also worth applying loads of wd40 or simliar to the splines and leaving to to soak for a few hours.

Re: lowering the rear r5 turbo

I popped the caps/covers off mine and sprayed with wd40 a week prior to doing it, used the guide off here and a bolt, large washer, and small section of exhuast pipe and they wound out with a bit of persuasion

do you have to remove the rear arches? or can it be done with them in place?
