    NRY turbo project

As some of you may or may not know, I am the person who has actually bought the legendary clio maxi turbo. Between Neil and myself we come to an agreement on the price of the car and then the chase was on to collect it which nearly didn`t happen due to problem with the car we was going to use to collect the car and blowing the engine the night before collection but luckily a kind person off RTOC come to the rescue with his recovery truck.

My main aim is to use the engine block itself but sell many of the parts off due to wanting more power and to also put it into the new naples that I bought to keep it look o.e on the outside for the sleeper look and then sell the maxi as a standard 1.8 16v lump with some extras but so as many as its had which will be removed from the naples which is a 70k engine

The car on the recovery truck:

The car in its state the morning after once I woke up:

Due to wanting more power the following parts were sold or are still for sale:
pace charge cooler (will be in the way of my turbo and external wastegate set up)

forge dump valve (never liked the noise myself):

    carbon covers (going standard painted):

bucket subframes (williams interior ready to put back in):

manifold, downpipe and de-cat (going external wastegate and bigger downpipe and exhaust)

chipped high boost ecu (going standalone adaptronic ecu)

scuttle induction (will clash with the new turbo and external wastegate set up)

bucket seats (putting a standard williams interior back in with the rear seats)

garrett gt28rs turbo (to small for what I want as going t3/t4 turbo!)

    Re: NRY turbo project

first thing for me to do when I got the car was to attack the interior. It was dirty inside and covered in cob webs and smelt funny so there was only one thing to do, throw the carpet and underlay away and start again and once I did this I found the underlay soaking wet so was the best thing.

    as it was:

    seats removed:

carpet removed and lots of stero wiring still installed:

My god that looks horrendous with that bonnet, spoiler and tacky yellow wheels on a green car. I would have been tempted to de-barry the bodywork and paint/sticker it up like a works clio maxi, set of speedlines and you would be away

I would have done the same but:

    >bonnet has been modified for the 306 headlights
    >spoiler has been properly cut and fitted as it is a r5 carisma spoiler which has been smoothed so would have been a new boot job
    > wheels are 8.5j wide and still run 30mm spacers so putting 17's on still would have slowed the car down still would not have filled the arches out as much as I have wanted even with the 18's it didnt work
    >roll cage has been welded and I want to keep the interior standard for the o.e sleeper look
    >and as you said would have needed a respray. Easier job and less costly buy a o.eish valver

It did yes. I would do that put putting Williams interior in it, standard engine, suspension and so on and selling it on. Will be up to the new owner to so what they want with it and I am running out of room with 3 cars already!

    Re: NRY turbo project

yesterday me and Markey Mark set out removing the engine out the green machine. We was going to try drop the engine out of the standard naples and swap it into the the green one was in one day but time was getting on and I had a hot date last night which could not be missed! haha.
    ready to start attacking:

radiator out after alot of hassle!!

bumper and headlights out after ALOT MORE HASSLE. Neil I must say you worked very hard on making this all fit to perfect!!

skateboard lined up ready to drop which I nicked from work!

    engine on the skateboard:

car back onto the axle stands and the engine completely freed up:

engine on the subframe on the floor:

    car engine less!

engine on the lovely new stand after alot of pain, these lumps are alot heavier than a c1j!!!

    end of day one:

Haha I love that, double garage, project car in each side! Is it weird that apart from the strange bumper/headlight arrangement I REALLY like the maxi!

    Re: NRY turbo project

after splitting the gearbox and engine block found out the flywheel is standard that will be sent off to be lightened and balanced and also the clutch is a helix paddle and valeo outter cover so this was removed as going to go for a clutch which will be able to take alot more power. Won`t be able to do the flywheel until the clutch arrives so I can get it machined to take the clutch.

Also after checking out with the injectors the 570cc ones which I was going to go for seem to be too small so will be upping them to 756cc

Looking good Rich, loving the projects going on at the mo seems to be a few

I am suprised with the spec of your engine that it only had that clutch combo with it but then if it was only on the fastchips ECU that is all it would need Take it you will be using the same clutch as markey mark and turbo ted then. Get ole CTM to have a play with your fly wheel and get some slots in it

What sort of power you looking at?

I am going for as much as I can to be honest, 350ish would be good aslong as I can put it down I don`t think I will be going to the extent as Mark and Robbie as I think my box would break before the clutch. Mark and myself was in talks on Sat about what route to go and he is going to get me some quotes on clutches and go from there

As some may have seen already the engine and all the bits are up for sale. I don't have the time to do it and family has to come 1st so if anyone is interested in any engine parts or a rolling shell let me know!
