I'm currently stripping the engine/box out of my 5, totally bodged tbh. No split pins in drive shaft nuts and one was only nipped up, stripped threads in struts and nuts/bolts bodged in. The list is endless.
Anyway, the n/s driveshaft is missing the pin and I was wondering does it 100% need it and if so where's the best place to source one?
I normally fit the pin in the end of the driveshaft (gearbox side) to prevent the shaft moving about, sometimes they are loose fit sometimes tight but better to make sure its secure.
Its just a dowel that goes in there, i have box of them but can be sourced from most hardware places.
Ok, might be one fitted in the new car as it comes with driveshafts, otherwise I'll have to try and find out the correct size.
When i can i'll measure one up for you, can't remember size off the top of my head.

i brought 1 from renault a while ago. however i did find that when i removed the pin from the shaft i used a 5mm ( or was it a 6mm) drill bit to bash it out, anyway the drill bit snapped of ( in the shaft) found it was well tight, so just snap a drill bit in there
With the race cars we use a suitable split pin and do away with the two roll pins, it's easier to pull the split pin out, as opposed to trying to hammer out the bloody roll pins in a hurry....

I wish there was a decent hardware store near me, I'll have to measure up and go on ebay at some point. Great advise as always though dudes.
The OE ones are a double pin, one inside the other if that helps. Keep them in stock.
