    my B18ft project

    Hi,

well after months of thinking about it, I have now got a B18ft lump in my car.

In its long life my car has be changed and pull about so i throught i would carry on with this and change the engine.

Markey Mark built the engine so will ask him to fill in the spec sheet.....

    will update more soon

    Cheers

    Cheers Mark!!

The plan is to have it at the pod on the 1st! don’t think it will be flying down the strip yet but hope to be on the road....

think MOT will be the Thursday at this rate!

I'm running a T28, so the only real headache left is getting the downpipe sorted out....

    Re: my B18ft project

so we tried last night to get the thing to go..... Fail,

has fuel, has lots of spark.... so guess it has to be a timing issue. time to look at the wiring I feel

apart from that I need to sort out some cable clips, plumb up two water pipes, and sort out the down pipe then we are on the road..... i hope

    its Alive !!!!!

the famous what does this Orange wire do lol

but running way to rich and still have to sort out a water pipe connection and weld up the down pipe.... + need to do a few local test drives to get thing set up ok etc.... make oil pressure gauge work. Make temperture gauge work etc etc... so its not going to make the POD

    Marky Mark = legend !

my clio b18 threw quite abit of oil out round mallory but was fine at pod. i dont think these lumps like being thrown around alot. Teeing into the turbo oil return sounds like an idea, let me know if this works please

It was a just push it back into the garage moment.....

However I am a bit more upbeat today; so will get it out tomorrow night and take the rear housing off the turbo to look for oil, the shaft on the turbo feels good so maybe it’s not the turbo..... ??

I have a T28 with Orange injectors etc.... but can’t seem to get the idle correctly below 1000 rpm its seems to “hunt” slightly....Has anybody else seen this issue ??

You got the standard Idle control valve still in place? if not I think it will hunt on idle as you have nothing to control the idle speed properly. If it is in place give it a good clean.

Ref to blue smoke check turbo as you are I would totally remove it if rear of turbo wet oily and the manifold section dry you know it's turbo if manifold wet you know it's coming from the engine itself. Have you done engine compression test yet? Are you using new ring's?

You haven't got idle control valve mate, i'll source one and we'll fit it on and give it a go.

I have another AFM too which i have set for about 15psi of boost so we'll stick that in too.

    Re: my B18ft project

    small quick update,

so Mark pop round and we took the turbo off (in the bloody rain again) and yes its Fcuked. joy. now just need to track down the guy i brought it off, he clamed it was a re-con fully working turbo, ... to be fair there was no play in the shaft etc but to only last about 10 miles i guess not.

its been sent off to have the seals done and a 360 bearing chucked in.

once its back we will get it up and running, Dont think she will be on the road this year now, but will hit the ground running next year

    It passed MOT yesterday

Flew through it so he'll be out in it soon, might even get it up to the next Surrey meet for its first long drive

    Re: my B18ft project

Bit of an update with this car

Few things have gone, mainly me being the new owner.
I bought it off Tank after him needing to sell it but have assured him he has first dibs on buying it back in the future if he wants it

I do have a few plans for it once I got my red 5 mapped but the plans are
-repaint all the kit in as close to original plastic black as I can so it looks more original
-replace few bits of kit too so its all original phase 1
-replace few bits on the interior and remove a few bits too
-new suspension and a freshen up

One thing I will be doing though is removing the Volvo engine, I know I favour these a lot but I have something else in the garage I want to try so something else will be going into the engine bay

If anyone is interested in a full Volvo 480 turbo engine (with few tweeks) let me know
