I was originaly just using sealant after I removed the old gasket but I am having a heck of a time trying to find an air leak and am just replacing all bits with new gaskets

Kellogs box how good will it actually be if I did that?

Kellogs box will work perfectly well ,its thicker than the standard gasket .
air leak is probably between head and the manifold , spray some wd40 down there
while idleing .if idle goes down thats your leak . also worth checking pipes from/to the
    iscv for splits .
