    c1j flywheel teeth

strange one, got my engine back in friday, and whilst bolting the clutch onto the flywheel (215mm clutch with modified flywheel) one of the timing sensor teeth broke off due to the holes being under it, now it starts and runs fine, but will it cause me any issues?

Would it mess with the TDC timing reference signal

I thought it would but if it's running ok who knows

Maybe the tdc sensor is picking up the bolt and thinks it's a tooth???

    Re: c1j flywheel teeth

me and stu had a tooth missing off the flywheel on the 5lag. it threw the timing out all over the place, still ran but i think the double gap on the flywheel resets the aei. looks like its counting the thread as a tooth in your case. i would check with a timing strobe if the engine is fitted otherwise replace. tbh i would replace anyway as its only gonna let you down when you need it the most

i'll have to get timing light on it and check, hopefully it counts the bolt!

I would still be taking it back out and replacing, but it's up to you, get the timeing gun and see what it's doing, personally I wouldn't want to risk.

    Re: c1j flywheel teeth

I'd be more worried about it coming out while the engine is @ high RPMs prob work loose & fook the clutch at best I'd say, looks like it has to come out

    Re: c1j flywheel teeth

it starts and runs and revs beautifully, wont idle if you take your foot off but its now got cam which it didn't before, so think carb may need adjustment. what would the timing be doing if it wasn't picking it up? may put a blob of weld on if i can in the meantime, then do flywheel properly once i have more time...

Don't know how sensitive the Renault sensor is to the shape of the tooth, may need to weld a blob then attack it with a file

    Re: c1j flywheel teeth

i wouldnt even be thinking about bodging that, its gonna have to come off sooner or later, and if it goes with a bang its gonna be more expensive than if you did it now. stu managed to split the box off the block and change flywheel without removing the lot

Good work at least you are doing the sensible thing and putting a decent flywheel on and starting again and not doing a bodge repair. Could be worse though you could be doing an F7p turbo conversion and forget to make sure the engine turns on crank before you put it all in and are almost finished
