    matt black track r5 gtt

A few pics from my mot today

Failed on about 6 things, so not bad for a car thats not been driven for about 2 years!

Its far to low at the back though!!!!

    Ridiculous!

I only realised how low the car was when i put the gaz dampers on the back as it had been in storage with non on.

    Few more pics

So i need to raise torsion bar about two inches

    Change front brake flexi hoses

    Change wiper

    Change front struts to coilovers

Sort out handbrake and rear calipers so they are actually working

Thats about it. Any tips on the rear torsion?, realy not looking forward to that.

I may just make mallory on track if i actually grasp an ounce of motivation!

Also i drove it about 20 miles to the mot and was surprised how nice it felt, gave me the smile factor

Even the mot tester was impressed with its general solidness and how nice it sounded.

Unbelievably awesome - I absolutely love that car, very brave to do it, but wow. Don't tell the missus but I've fallen in love with another 5.

    Don't tell Fluffy either.

You gotta be chuffed to bits. Well done - another one back on the road.

i need to see this car sometimes, it looks i have a massive pile of money that im to scared to spend on a top respray as im worried i'll get mugged off

its half done in matt black, just needs finishing then im building the car up.. respray can wait, as i think its easier to find a woman to rim your butt than it is to find a top painter..

Re: matt black track r5 gtt

Well much to my own amazement I managed to motivate myself to do a couple of hours on the old girl. Just torsion bar to adjust (I've settled on raising it by just an inch now) and rear calipers to fit and we are ready for another mot.

Started first time again after a long period of neglect!

Got new ph1 gaz coil overs on the front. Need some advice into what size springs and poundage I need for occasional road and track use. Not bothered about it being a hard ride. The springs had stamped on them 8 250. Am I right in thinking they are 8 inch long with spring rate of 250 pounds. Also didn't have anything to measure them, are they 1.9 or 2.25 wide? How low can I take the ph1 gaz coil overs as I want it really low.
Would like it slightly lower than the back after the rear is lifted about 1 inch.

Sound like they are 8" 250lbs, my standard springs i think were 8" 275lbs, i could not get the drop i wanted with the 7.5" wide rims, the bottom collars where so close to the tyres it meant using spacers, instead i got some spring from James which were only 6" long, that slammed the bitch.

Its going to be down to the wheel clearance on the front Andy, you are going to have to just look at, willy wheels will probably be ok.

Give me a buzz if you want a chat about doing the torsion bars, its a pig of a job getting them out but dead easy to set up and refit

Still need to know what poundage of spring to use, was thinking either 6 inch or maybe 4 inch!
It's currently sat as low as it wil go as the prima wheels rub on the collars also. Doesn't look slammed at all!

Hi Gary, yup it's c1j, now if it didn't have a vnt bolted to the side of it it would be long gone. Plan is to mot it, and rag it to death, with the b18ft with t28 ready to drop in when it gives me grief!

Is that the VNT I built / converted ? How's it doing? Maybe use the VNT on the B18ft when you go that b18ft route

    That's the one James.
Yeah thought about the vnt route on the b18ft. What sort of boost pressure can this turbo take, obviously I will have to monitor for det, should timing be fully retarded on the standard crank sensor?

I would automatically with a VNT retard the TDC sensor, anything over standard GTT boost matey I would defo also monitor for knock and look to set fueling for max of 11.8 @ WOT.

Boost wise I would say go for what you feel it's basically the same spec as the turbo developments vnt I would go for 20psi manifold myself and increase to what you want but monitor charge temps aswell

Mine are 2.25 im sure, measure the top of the collar the spring sits in, or the id of the sprig itself.

300 lbs is probably best, im sure james have 450s or something

The roof is gloss black. This car was originally red, then white with gloss black roof then Matt black. Engine bay is a mess as is still red with the Scuttle panel done in white! Bits like the engine bay won't really be messed with until the engine is swapped to b18ft. As always with these r5's they tend to look better in pictures! Don't get me wrong though this is the most solid r5 I have seen, but I'm not gona make it a minter as I don't want to be in the same boat as philg and be scared to drive it!
Decals were done by the previous owner, think he got them off eBay. Think they are megane r26 decals? With r5gtt in place of r26?

well alot has changed in the last year. Bought a house got engaged blah blah blah.........
With the house came a garage. which ive kitted out with lighting, heating and sockets. Most of my tools are sorted just need some decent welding gear. Ive got a little apprentice (a fellow rtoc member) and work has started again. Got some nice ideas and instead just bodging a few things to get it on the road its having a full overhaul. All my C1j stuff is going straight away, replacing with all my b18ft goodies. Work has started on engine bay and dash. Anyone after a c1j with vnt?
