    renault extra 1.7 turdo..

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

my extra van, originally i fitted a 2 litre laguna engine.. now ive put the volvo 1.7 turbo engine in... other than an oil cooler and forge actuator the engine is standard. i had scoff de restrict the ecu and have since fitted the 440 turbo gearbox as i blew reno 5 turbo one to bits.. fitted a high performance clutch disk with standard pressure plate it still slips a tiny bit but i didnt want full race clutch as i still wanted to have an easy drive..

i used 1.8 clio rad and original 440 intercooler ( which needed a bit of chopping and plastic welding to fit ) reno 5 turbo driveshatfs and brakes.. had pipecraft in essex make an exhaust, this was done originally for the 2litre but i just cut off the down pipe and welded the volvo one on... for fuelling i took fuel tank out of a 1.4 petrol energy engined extra van and pulled the fuel pump.. i took both fuel pumps apart and fitted the volvo one inside the renault housing so it'd fit in the renault tank. filter on the outside..

ive uploaded a small video, pics to follow of fitting etc not that there is many!

    ok photo time...

removing the 2litre engine to make way for 1.7 turdo

    engine removed

volvo manifold with the VOLVO INTERCOOOLER machined off... looks a bit less obvious under the bonnet

volvo engine in, just sorting all the wiring and pipework

taking out the original fuel pump and putting volvo fuel pump in renault housing.. in the extra vans you have to remove the tank to get to pump as the hole in the floor only enables access to sender

    forge 14 psi actuator fitted

    volvo engine all in

outside of van, 14" wheels of an automatic clio other than tinted windows it looks standard.. i like the sleeper look

this van i bought allready to converted to 1.4 gtt not very well either.. i fitted new head gasket and turbo along with some other bits.. used it for a while then sold it.. it had lowered suspension on the front which made it handle like a pig and look stupid as arse was up in the air

this is the volvo turbo van when i first bought it and fitted the 2 litre about four years ago

this van i bought brand new... 21/2/92... resprayed it in 2002.. over the years i fitted gtt brakes, interior, wheels, central locking 1.4 c2j engine with clio 1.2 box
lowered the rear by 10mm also had 3k stereo install and did 250k miles in it. also modified and painted front grille, removed door locks and fitted chrome trim in mouldings, blacked out all the lamps and tinted windows.

its now off the road as the underside is rotten... i used to steam clean it every year and fill it up with waxoyl.. bloody pointless.. ive bought 2000 v reg van to rebuild then swap all the parts over

I'm totally confused. There seems to be three different vans, three different engines and four different colours! Nuts.

Btw, the Volvo turbo final install in the J plate Blue (later purple?) one looks great.

It is confusing. I'll label the photos soon !! I've done three two litre vans. Had another gt turbo one which some else had half done and I tidied it up and fitted new turbo etc. the last blue one I've had since brand new. It's off the road now as the underside is rotten. I have bought a v reg van which I'm restoring then I'll swap all the bits round !! I've some pics of that somewhere.

this is the van i bought to restore and replace my original van, the cobalt blue ( purple ) one above.. lots of dents and marks in the side so i decided to replace both rear quarters

quarter cut off and weld thru primer applied to all the joints

    repairing all the inside dents!

there was a little bit of rot in the lower part of inner wheel arch so took care of that by making another bit

painting the inside parts before fitting quarter... desperate measure to try and keep rust at bay

painting the lower half of the inside of quarter panel

and the side fitted, spot and mig welded where required..
