    my new project, 1975 content

well after the 5, i wanted to get myself a "small" project to fill my spare time. ive always wanted a t2 camper and after a quick session on ebay i managed to find one locally and in good condition (bare in mind its from 1975 lol). its had 11 owners from new and showing 97300 miles on the clock, although that must be 197k.
its a 1.6 aircooled also, but whether thats staying or not is another task.

anyway, i picked it up this morning and this is how it looks at the start of my loooonnnng term project. as you can see some work has already been undertaken by the prevoius owner and the engine has been removed

plans soo far is to find, remove and sort out any rust, lower as much as possible, possibly get the steelies banded, and respray, but all in good time lol

Sweet project, I hate to think what it cost, there's a geezer very local to me who works on these and currently has 2 in, he was showing me the extent of the work that goes into getting them rust free!! Crazy best of luck

Agreed. And rust-free is only the start of it.

Jimmy, if you get even halfway in this project before offloading for someone else to finish, then hats off to you.

but i guess on a good note at least if you paid the right money in the first place then you will make cash on it fairly easily, if you have the passion you will manage.

a friend across the road had 1 of these campers it was in a right state ( found it in a field) it had more rust than you would find on 10 gt turbos
he started to strip it and replace panels etc then got board with it and sold it. he got about £500 just for the shell i will have to show him the progress on this 1

Re: my new project, 1975 content

Cheers for the comments guys,I got it for 1500 which in my mind is cheap for a t2 as u still see ones needing work going for 7-8000k.

Spent today attacking it some more and it looks like I'm already making a list formnew panels, but choosing where to start isnt easy.it does need alot if work but I've got no time scale and strangely enjoy welding haha

Re: my new project, 1975 content

heres the pics from today, i forgot to take the before photos though

and thats just the start of the passenger side

my missus gave me a hand and stripped the dash out

previous repairs by last owner ( i think im going to cut it out and replace it in time )

and now for the best find today.

yes thats the entire passenger corner under the windscreen bodged. i cant decide if its the worst or best bit of bodywork ive ever seen. there was a good inch of filler on the outside and it must of taken days to shape to make it look like the origenal panel

well thats where im at so far, next up is order some panels from justkampers, and repair the passenger door rot

I have spent my fair share of time messing about with these, at one point doing about 5 or 6 a year for 3 years. Get the nitromors out and a wire brush attachment for the grinder.
