Re: What car insurance company are you with?

I tried getting a classic policy on a '92 Astra GTE 16v, ok its not a R5 but same era of hot hatch anyhow...

    Adrian Flux
    Elephant
    FJ
    HIC
    Performance Direct
    Sky
    Graham Sykes

all the above quoted from £450 upwards to £2600!? and I'm 29 with 10 years driving experience (1 claim and 3 points 3 years ago)

In the end got it for £250 (could of been less if mileage reduced from 3000) with http://www.heritage-quote.co.uk/

Re: What car insurance company are you with?

Shoppers tipped me off about Graham Sykes too

Clio fully comp, declared every single mod inc rollcage, coilovers, buckets, harnesses, brakes, powerflexed polybushes etc.

£494 with 7 years protected no claims

    Sky Insurance wanted £950
    Brentacre £600

Graham Sykes were very helpful and polite over the phone, highly recommended

Re: What car insurance company are you with?

HIC just quoted me for a 2001 Clio 172, standard with no mods, 3000 miles, £1500 value, protected max NCB:

    £550 TP,F&T
    £625 FC.

It's all about where you live.

I went through the list last April to get ins on the 1.1 litre Fiat Cinquecento.

    They mostly quoted:

£600 to £1000 !!!! FC, 3000 miles, £1500 value, some mods. They are avalable used with no mods in good condition for £600.

HIC and Avira were the only ones to really try and get the sale. Quoted about £360. I went for TP,F&C with HIC for £220 in the end as I was already with them. Insured to drive other cars and agreed valuation, but they didn't honour that and wouldn't do the valuation. I got a terse refusal with no explanation. I got the impression they didn't do it for anything under £2000.

Re: What car insurance company are you with?

I actually couldn't believe how good the quote was, she read out the list of modifications just to make sure I hadn't missed off the rollcage for that price!

Sky said it was the combination of rollcage and phase 1 Clio 172s going through a bad time that lead to their high qoute. They just couldn't get near to Sykes and Brentacre

Not a Renault but I insure the Subaru with Aviva. My renewal with HIC was getting near £700 last year. Aviva, fully comp, protected n/c, mod's declared - £317.

This was much lower than the so called specialists. I'm ringing them in the week to add the 5 to my policy and I'll let you know

Re: What car insurance company are you with?

Last year I was with Footman James - fully comp, mods declared etc for £430 had the renewal through last week and they wanted £583 so I rang them to see if they could do it any cheaper and they said they didn't even do discount for RTOC members

So after ringing around I am now paying £291 - classic policy, fully comp, 8yrs NCB, with all mods, legal and breakdown cover from Graham Sykes. Well chuffed.

They also said they will sort out agreed valuation if I send some photos in too. Just wish I had tried them last year.

    Track cover (non competitive)
    Agreed value 4k

£521 if I fit a thatcham device (immob will do) F/C
2nd best was £568 with no track cover.

Are you able to state whether you have to garage the car over night or not required next to. Your policy details.

When I researched insurance last year I had to go with a standard company because I would not be storing it in a garage over night.

Most companies offer a discount if garaged over night. Some refuse to insure if not garaged when in certain post codes, as you've found.

    WORD of WARNING.

I have nothing but problems with Adrian Flux, denied recieving my paperwork TWICE, have cancelled my insurance, charging me over £112 for the remainder of the cancelled policy....

But would lower that to £48 if i took another policy out with them.... & that policy would now cost £457 instead of the £285 it was 6 weeks ago.....

Not going with them, & they can take me to court... & will post this story everytime somebody mentions whho to get insurance with.

    I highly recoment Graham Sykes.

I had an aggravating time just getting a quote from Flux. Bullying, aggressive, annoying, argumentative, unpleasant, salesman.

Then after all that he said because they are owned by the same parent comapny, or whatever, as HIC, who I was already with, he couldn't quote anyway.

I've used flux for years and always been competitive and helpful on the phone for mods and changes etc.

however I've heard they are awful when it comes to a claim and actually paying out. touch wood I've never had to but I can't say it doesn't play on my mind, especially on the daily as it sees a lot of mileage.

as such there's a real possibility i'll be swapping this year to a competitor with a good rep for payouts for the daily and perhaps even the turbo next time if I decide to use it on the road more

Just taken out insurance today with Sureterm - £123.82. I allowed my previous policy with Barry Grainger to lapse by 5 days (didn't use the car!) and they had to do a new quote which was £60 odd more, so naturally I told them to do one.
