    wiring

hello there i have been tinkering with the wiring today and was able to get the car to turn over and start but the engine dies in a second or so. am i right in thinking that this is down to my wiring. i have the plug with the 5 wires on and this is how i have them wired now. iv'e got grey/red going to fuel pump. green + grey wired to the yellow wire on the 5 gt turbo plug (using as an ignition live) also got a brown/blue and an orange not doing anything. i have had a play about with wires on the permenant live but still not running just dying after a second. does anybody know what wires go where as i havent a clue when it comes to car electrics.
    thanks paul

    Re: wiring

i havent got a blue/white would it just be a case of trying the other wires. because when i tryed the green wire on the permenant live it made the fuel pump come alive so maybe the green wire in place of blue/white wire. cheers paul

    Re: wiring

you have put the large red wire direct to the alt?
blue/white is on later loom, guessin yours is the earlier 200mm clutch version. try puttin the grey onto a yellow ignition wire that stays on durinmg cranking, lke the aei.

yes have put the large red wire on the alt. and have done the following i've put the grey wire to one of the yellows under dash the green wire to orange under dash and the grey/red to the fuel pump wire.
this got the engine going but it runs like a bag of spanners for about 20 seconds and dies. would this this be down to me not having the lamba sensor not plugged in ?
    cheers for your help paul

    Re: wiring

sounds like your fuel pump is priming under cranking then cutting out, recheck all your wiring

    Re: wiring

so does the yellow wire under the dash stay live during cranking? if its on the yellow wires that are live for only the second click of the ignition then fine, do check.

    Re: wiring

Still no joy been trying every way I could think of but nothing when the ignition is live the fuel pump wire varys between voltages would this be normal or should it just see 12v. I can now get the engine to run fine on the starter then dies as soon as it goes back to ignition live any help is appreciated ive been pulling my hair out. Cheers Paul

    Re: wiring

Surely you musty have the wires round the wrong way on the lives if it stays live when cranking & not when you stop ?

    Re: wiring

the easiest way to test the engine is to put both the positives directly onto yhe battery for now making sure the that you have the correct wires, and then make sure the fuel pump wire is also correctly fitted. have you also connected the earths? on my loom i have two, one about a quarter of the way down the loom from the ecu end and one near the very end?

but dont blame me if it all goes tits up

    Re: wiring

Do you have standard injectors? There are 2 yellow wires on the ign barrel you need the one that is constantly live. There will be 2 earths near the injectors. What fuel pump are you using, make sure the feed to the pump is not kinked and being starved of fuel.
