    Web site weirdness

There are a few Icons that have gone missing.

If you notice any other changes from the what was the norm, please list them here.

    Thanks.

    I've got one.

'Old' is appearing before a posts date. Was that there before?

Ian, I can't make sense of what you're saying ?

Mart, it shouldn't be, its about twice as powerfull as the old server and hosted on the same connection. More likely just a slow period at one end or the other. Generally it should be improved.

Plesk was slow this afternoon. On Saturday, before the site was live, it was returning pages several times faster.

I couldn't tell if it was the server or if it was the internet or anything else.

The new server has about five times as much RAM as the old one. Much more HDD space.

    Re: Web site weirdness

Well it's had more than a good kick. It's a totally new server.

I sent a pm and posted a message during the down time last night and they were both there today on the new server.

Maybe Plesk managed to not lose any new input while migration process was running. Just guessing. Maybe there was duplication. Or, as Lee just said, did the sender send more than once due to the time out notice? As we know of old, the message is usually send even though something somewhere timed out.

My browser is not showing those two Icons. I only know you wrote them as the email notification had them there as text.

Am I the only one with this oddity? Using Firefox 3.6.16

    Hmm.

I just saw that the 'old' prefix is now not there. Maybe the icons will return at some point on their own. Maybe they just needed a few days holiday.

Yep, the 'old' has definitely gone from old threads too.

Maybe as I was 'using' during the migration my browser has cached some old server locations.

    Re: Web site weirdness

Ian, I've found that Firefox doesn't always display web pages quite right. I use the 'ie tab' add-on when using the BBC website because Firefox doesn't always display the video appelets.

Not saying this has anything to do with the RTOC issues you're seeing but it might be worth adding the ie tab add-on, right click on the tab header and choose 'switch rendering engine' just to check.

It isn't slow here, I'd say its exactly the same, but if you're sure that it isn't your connection and you're sure it must be the RTOC server then there's bugger all we can do because this is about the biggest and best VPS package we could buy!

If we stayed on the old VPS then RTOC would have vanished off the planet in about 6 months time because the HDD would have been full, so it was a neccessary upgrade I'm afraid. Its this or nowt.

It wasn't a pop mate; just feedback for you guys. The website's running slower than usual (or before the change), and that's on both my home & work computers.

    Re: Web site weirdness

My PC is running quite a bit more slowly as in the last few weeks FireFox steals ALL the RAM for advert plug in's. If I open the task manager and end process the 'plug in container' the speed jumps up.

Even after that though, the new site does seem to be slow for me to. But so does the rest of the internet just at the moment. Or maybe it's my PC.

I'm beginning to think the problem is this end, as the site has been as slow since my last post about it, and tonight it's a snail's pace, yet no-one else seems to be experiencing it?

For me, it's not been any quicker since I posted on this thread at the end of March, but assumed it was just a janky connection here as no-one else had piped up.

    Re: Web site weirdness

It's not you mart, it's been steadilly getting slower over the week. Initially I could not see a difference when you could, but now it is night and day.

I did some testing a couple of days ago. The server's connectivity is super fast but PHP is very slow to return pages. Static pages are responding google-fast.

I've tried everything I can think of, and short of removing PHP and installing it again I have no more ideas. The new server is running a later version of PHP, not that this should be a problem but I'm tempted to re-install the old version if the host company cannot resolve it.

The host company is looking in to it for now. No word from them yet though.

    Re: Web site weirdness

K mate, that's cool. I'm only on a ~2Mb connection up here, so any changes to site speeds are easy to spot.

Perhaps everyone else who has a faster connection speed didn't notice it at first?

Glad it's been acknowledged now though

For me the site was timing out (message saying: problem loading page) for much of this evening?

Not even Plesk control panel was available!

    Anyone else had that?

The rest of the internet this evening, for me, lighting fast.

I fitted Firefox 4 to my PC last weeks and since then the RTOC website has been much much faster for me.

Are any of you still experiencing slow speed?
