So I bought her back in 2008 completely standard apart from some pink touches haha.

Well decided to put my finger out and get to work
1st i retrimmed the sub box.
    Before

    After

Then took my exhaust off my old one which was a bitch to do.

    UPDATE!
Basically im still saving for my coilies
but in the mean time, i stil have my angel eye fogs off my old clio. so i thought might aswel whack them on the new one.
So I made new brackets for them and put them in the surrounds

then popped to work to get a few bits and pieces

Need some of that as im making my own small loom instead of using the one that they come with.
    Switch in place.

Also when i popped to work i ended up gettin this too

A momo race wheel for £12 gota love workin on parts there.
    More updates tomorrow.
    cheers

    Anyway Finished my fogs
Took a while as i kept running out of things.
Hid the switch in the ashtray.

got them all wired up so the fog comes on with the stalk and the halos on that switch.

    going into refurb soon.
    cheers.

    UPDATE 1/6/09
Got woken up to find this yesterday...

So got that sorted this morning.
Then i got bored and changed the way my sub was.
    from this...

    To this

Just need to make some side for it and then carpet it.
Also did some work on my bumper.

Shot some primer over it to see the flat spots. bit more filler here and there and then its ready for paint
Plus i sent my wheels off today for a refurb
    C&C welcome.

    UPDATE 30/6/09
Well after about 4 weeks i have my wheels back after them been redone 3 times as the quality of service was shockingly poor. They came back with very bad paint, dents in the lip still, chipped paint from where they have been stored at the place, and as i kept going in i got the same excuse very time, in the end i lost my cool and took my centre rings back as they have been wrecked.
Anyway pictures of the wheels atm

I think im gona sell these as the money i need to spend on getting them how i want i could get a better set of wheels.
Also ive done a few small touches.
    Drums painted

    Calipers and wheels nuts painted.

Also the bumper is coming on now smooth, just needs abit more touching up but no rush

    cheers.

    Small Update. 28/08/09
Not much really il show you so far.
    before

    During

Just gotta wait and youll see whats been done when i put pics up.
Also ordering a few goodies too.
    cheers guys

    UPDATE 15/09/09
Forgot to update this after trax, anyway While my dash was out i started doing a few touches
    Speedo before.

    During.

    After.

Also i painted the clock, air vents, Central locking button, hardazd switch, and tons more yellow as you can see

Not done much lately due to lack of money and the weather.
But now its time to get things rolling again!
1st things 1st, getting the car running right, so i ordered 4 new wheel bearings, still waiting for two to arrive though, new oil and new lower ball joints.

also my sunroof was leaking quite bad(common thing on clios)
So whipped that out and resealed it.

Might have to redo it again but we shall see.
Also ive started stripping the interior out, to be sent away and have done
Roofliner and back plastics out, Also rear seats out.

After this today i decided to get to work.
All wheels off, front pads, disc and caliper off, and also TRE taken off, Ready for the hubs to be popped off and driveshafts to be replaced.
However i snapped a tool so need to get another to carry out, and need to get some rounded bolt, screws out aswel, shall do that tomorrow.
    Current state of her.

Oh and my long awaited horn button turned up!

Once all of this has been taking care of i can start on other bits
    Fit different exhaust.
Refurb my other set of wheels.
Get custom springs for the rear made.
Refit the interior when its all out and been sent off.
    Then onto bodywork
    Cheers all.

    UPDATE 31/01/10
Havent done much the weekend but The rear doorcards are now out and been stripped ready to send off.

front and rear seats will be coming out next week hopefully so the carpet can come out too.
Read hubs have being taken off, just need to replace the bearings in them, Front hubs will be off as soon as ive drilled through the rounded nuts/bolts.
Bad news though, while i was working at the back of the car i realised somthing wasnt right with the suspension, Seems the Damper has slide off the rubber mount which keeps it attached to the axle, so ive emailed the place where i got them and hopefully New ones will be going on. fingers crossed.

    UPDATE 06/02/10
Last few days have just being me drilling off old corroded nuts and bolts. Anyway Ive replaced the rear wheel bearings at last, Stripped down the front hubs and gonna replace those bearings and lower ball joints.
The interior has now been stripped and just prepping last few bits before it all gets sent off.
Oh and these arrived the other day fresh from Vmaxx, i hadnt even spoke to them but onyl to speedbox, good service or what

    Seats out

    Front doorcards stripped.

    Cheers.

Not Really done much this week due to being in nottingham and having college, however now the carpet is out, Had to used the grinder for a few bolts in the boot etc, anyway, Still waiting on a few parts to come, so I decided to tidy up the bay abit and move the HID ballast boxes.
Then Cleaned and painted all the wheel arches, fitted the new dampers and then Build the rear brakes back up
    Before

    After

Rear painted and brakes and new dampers back on.

got alot to do tomorrow providing the parts all come.

    Update 16/02/10

    Front

Then today just after 12 she started first time, its being about 3 weeks since i last started her up and drove her.

How she is rolling atm until the interior gets done. 1 Seat FTW!

Then today i took it to john ashley and booked in for a different exhaust.

    UPDATE! 04/03/10
Cars back off the road for awhile, as I need 4 new tyres due to the crazy amount of positive camber i was running, which now has being sorted as i bought some camber gauges and set it all up properly.
then Just a quick taster before they get sent off for refurb.

    Also being busy today.
    Headliner before

    Headliner after

    Update! 26/03/10
things which have been going on, Week before Fast show, nothing was done and no sign of anything turning up. But then it all came together, sort of.
A company call ASNU came into college to show us how they clean fuel injectors etc, and said if i took mine out i could have it done for free, so me being me, Got the car in the shop and took the injectors out and got them all nice and cleaned with new fliters in and O rings.

    fuel Rail out and injectors.

Then Got a Phone call saying my wheels were ready to be picked up

Then while at work, i bought myself some lovely new rubber, toyo proxes, cant beat them!

then on my lunch break i decide to fit the tyres and Balance them, also tracked them up

then got home and put my roofliner back in

And Then had to get it ready for fast show, so heres a few photos from the pod.

The interior wasnt ready so i couldnt put it back in, however should be done in a few days. Few suprises coming this way aswell but youll have to wait and see
    cheers.

    Update 14/04/10
A quick list whats been done up until ISTS
Interior is all back in and been flocked.
    Carpet is now black.
    False floor finished
    and airbrushing done by marian

One of the Airbrushing at ISTS, shout out to marian

    cheers.

Havnt upated in a while, but after ISTS i went on the hunt for some seats, but i couldnt afford the buckets i wanted, so i found a set of renaultsport 172 seats for £80, not the best but they will do until i find a good set of buckets.
Also as ive removed my rear seats etc, the car didnt sit right and i had the coilies as low as they could go, so i decided to get a set of custom 90mm springs for the rear made up

new custom spring Vs. vmaxx spring

    Before

    After

    Also my seats fitted.

    cheers.

    UPDATE 14/09/10
I've being rather lazy lately and not updated this thread.
Well the end of last month it was MOt time, so old lights on, Cat back on etc. Passed the MOT but The lamba sensor was pretty much past it, as it was a universal one from when i had my decat made up. So I bought a proper one, non of this universal crap.

Then when i came to fit it to the decat it would just not fit. On closer inspection, where the lamba sensor hole was, there wasa ton of weld all over the bottom of the thread, as the tip of the new sensor was slighty wider, this meant alot of filing and retapping the hole was in order, Best bit of kit i have bought would be a nice new tap and die set.
    Freshly tapped thread

Nice new sensor fitted, what an improvment a decent sensor can make

while i was doing this i need to replace my engine mount aswell, so i did that too, Also my brakcet for my induction kit had broke a while ago, so matty made up a ncie new one for me! Nice one!!!

also had some tints done, all round and a sunstrip

At pistonheads show i decided to buy a snap off boss kit.

    Thats it Really.
More plans are in the pipe line, Car is coming off the road at the end of this month or the next.
New engine should be fitted for next year and hopefully some bodywork!
Interior is gonna be freshened up abit aswell!
So i shall be ripping it apart soon for the winter change
    Peace.

i was looking through the first few posts and thought to myself, i'm sure this had a tiger airbrushed under the bonnet and then it appeared!

got bored reading it so skipped some parts, just wondered what you're planning to do with the gearbox as the six speed won't fit between the chassis legs?

All I can say is, bloody hell.

Whilst many of the styling mods are of questionable taste, the journey is great to see/read about and the commitment to continual effort and learning/development is ace.

Re: The Black clio Project, From Day 1. now onto 225 power.

The ND0 box just fits in the bay but you definitely need to modify the nearside rail. You'll also need custom shafts, a hydraulic clutch assembly, a cable operated gear linkage, and if you want to run decent power you'll want to ditch the dual mass flywheel and run a single mass along with a decent clutch.

You can fit the jc5 gearbox to the F4RT block. The two ways I've seen are either fit a Clio flywheel and clutch align the JC5 with the clutch splines and slightly rotate it so that you have fresh metal to drill and tap new mounting holes. The other way is to fit a Clio 172/182 oil sump which automatically gives you the bottom bolt holes, then drill and tap the engine block.

You will encounter the same problems that Andy and Owen encountered and the was the downpipe hitting the master cylinder.

Cheers for the info matey Ive got a jc5 block and a F4R on the way so i can transfer all the parts into it. I was gonna ask about the master cylinder, Not sure how to get around that though? Smaller/thinner master cylinder?

    cheers.

Re: The Black clio Project, From Day 1. now onto 225 power.

    You could ditch the servo.

You could have a custom downpipe made to avoid the master cylinder.

Or the last option is to change the servo and MC location.

I've seen each of the above in action and all three work.

Re: The Black clio Project, From Day 1. now onto 225 power.

    UPDATE 3/5/11
Well alot has happened since i last updated, mainly roadtrips all over the UK to source parts and build engines etc
So basically long story short, the 6speed box wouldnt fit into the bay unless bits were chopped etc, then having a good think, head stratching and talking to some clio guru's the end plan was to get hold of a F4R block out the clio 172/182 and put all the 225 internals into the block and use the JC5 box.
So I began stripping the F4RT 225 block down for the head etc. finding out the cam seals were knackered, Full rebuild it was!
But no not so striaght forward as to make the 225 head work onto the block it need machining to take the pulley as the F4R block doesnt run the water pump of the cambelt. So on the hunt and fone calls i went, spoke to a few people in the know... but i was feeling this is impossible now... so i made 2 last calls... they both got in contact with a guy, minutes later i had a txt saying 'call me re 225' Straight on the phone i was to the man who knows his turbo conversions. hope was in sight!
So seconds later i went to renault to ordered all the parts we needed. nice big bill, but got them on trade so all is good!
Started to strip the head down, one headbolt was an arse and needed to be drilled out so new set fo drill bits and few hours later it was out.

    Cam seals

Then i need to source an oil feed kit, intercooler and more parts. Luckily someone was selling, so up to leeds i went.
    Oil feed kit fitted.

    Intercooler.

    Fitted.

    New engine mounts arrived.

    New gauges arrived.

    Started to refit dash.

    Test fitted pods

    wired fusebox back in

    Fresh parts!

Then after a mega long day up north, We have a fully rebuilt engine, I cant thank the guys enough for all the work, info and help they have given me ( you know who you are )
No pictures of the engine rebuild as i was learning too much and all the info going in and the rig up drill we used and the laughs.
Day after It was time to drop the engine in so i could send it off for the exhaust! Will have to come back out as im changing the box so it has a speedo drive in and paddle clutch to fit
    Day started like this

Put the box on, dropped it in.

The tiger is back, as i like to be different

    New brakes.

Car is currently on 4 wheels and having the exhaust done. more parts ordered.
    Wont be long now.
I'd like to thank everyone who is currently helping me along the way, Credit to all.
    More soon.
    cheers.

Re: The Black clio Project, From Day 1. now onto 225 power.

    20/09/11
Well, a very long over due updateof the last 5 months, well before mod nats, i tried my hardest along with others to get the car done for the show, so off it went for an exhaust, week later it was back with this. custom downpipe and through to the rear box

Also i picked up some rather nice recaros from a good mate
so to get them to fit i called good old matty! nice one kid!!!
started off as normal runners, then welded new bits on

Then a lick of black paint.

    And they are in

Then off the car went to a special 'clio god' for some work, MEGA THANKS to him (you know who you are)
Some more goodies. stand alone ECU

box of goodies, connectors, loom, sensors etc.

    3" 4 point TRS harnesses

Also retrimmed the headliner thanks to sarie

Then i got the car back and did a few things, and she ran, thanks to all the hard owrk everyone put in, also the throttle had been converted from electronic to cable withan adapted throttle body, thenproblems just came, firt i couldnt get the fuel pump to prime, then all the relays got fried, then the coilpack got fried.. but then bits and bobs later, we was back on track...however then everything i made progress, i seemed to go further backwards. going to renault almost every other day, and breakers yards to get parts. I didnt really touch the car for a month or two, at this point i stopped, and realised how much id had spent on the car, and came so close to getting rid of everything and just having a nice boring car to roll around in, i had enough of all the car stuff, i just wanted to give up and move on!!
But could i really let a car beat me? could i give up after coming this far? after sitting down and taking alot of time out and talking to sara and the family and my close mates.... it was decided it was all or nothing, and me being me i decided it was ALL! so after quick break away, i came back, made some phone calls... and the pow! 2 weeks before trax it was game on, everythign i needed to buy was bought, everyt tool i needed i got, every hour for 2 weeks straight we worked on the car, and stupid amount of road trips began!
At this time i need to say a MASSIVE thank you to my durham friend Andy! could not of done this without him and his knowlegde also to sara and matty for basically kicking my ass and not letting me give in... so
    Brakes rebuilt and bled.

    Battery relocated

MAssive amounts of work was done and we was pulling days from 7am start to 2am next morning, living on fast food and coffee! so not many photos of what we was doin as we didnt have time!
Coilovers were stripped and cleaned, and rebuild with AST full adjustable top mounts

    then fitted to the car

Interior started to go back in

New fuel pump setup, pickup pump, swirl pot, another pump to engine, Nice one andy

Also sourced some drivehsafts, and also flexing a paddle clutch now too
also we fitted a clio cup alternator setup so i could keep the power steering, then lots of fiddly bits done, and we also had to swapthe fuel pickups over, which seems easy, but its not always the case as we found!
Then on the wednesday she was ready for a fire up, i had never been so nervous in all my life,
    click 1 lights
Click 2 everything going well and pump was priming!
click 3, few times of the key and boom she started up a treat, everything was running good and smooth!
so then we checked everythign was torque up correctly( it must be right or im never happy or feel safe)
wheels on, dropped on the floor.... double checked everthing. bled all systems
Steering wheel clicked on, then for the 1st time in 11 months she had her first drive! and all was running sweet, bar the tracking which i needed to do but at 11.30 at night its not the best haha! so a few runs up the road and back it was all good, then at the top fo the road we lost power... i had ran out of fuel! oops so pushed back onto the drive and she sat there until the next day.
Got some fuel topped her up and started straight away! so onto the next jobs
New rear end, from a 182, which was smoothed, palstic welded and its and bobs,
    trial fit

so then off to the bodyshop at midnight, to crack on, all prepped etc and then sprayed he next day, then fitted to the car, no pics tho as i forgot to get any lol!
    then harnesses fitted

then set the camber and tracking up! all was good and trax was looking in our sight, then 11.30pm everything just came crashing down, popped to get some fuel, and on the way back to the car, i smelt petrol and hear a dripping noise, looking under the car fuel was just flowing out, so what aplace to break down, had to disconnect the battery and get all the petrol up from inside the car... straight away we could see the seal on the top of the tank had gave up on us, we thought it was ok but clearly not! so after 4 hours waiting for recovery we knew they wouldnt have a spare for us, so got the car back on the drive, ran into the house, opened a beer and had a think, i was so gutted, as everyone would of been supsrised as i ahdnt been seen for a few weeks haha, but then 10 mins after getting in it was time to go trax, so jumped into the mini, and we went, everyone cheered me up and made me that little bit happier, We had busted our balls for it to make it but oh well, a show is a show, there will be more...

Monday afternoon after trax, ordered a new seal and matty made me a one off tool to help with the job, and then POW few hours later she was all good!!!!
so here she is after a hard 11 months, she is reborn, nowhere finished, but she runs and i drive her as much as i can, still tons to do with bits i wanna mess with and do, mainly interior, stance, and the list goes on and on...
I cant thank everyone who has helped enough, this project would have been history now if it was for everyone coming down and helping!! family, sara, Andy, matty, warnie for his crazy hours, and EVERYONE ELSE YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

Many more updates to come over the next few weeks, and a few bits i havnt put up yet
    cheers.

Wow, what a great write up
You've put a lot of effort into that and it definitely shows. That little cars come a long way!

I love the Evo 5 seats in there. Nicest seats I ever had.

Re: The Black clio Project, From Day 1. now onto 225 power.

    UPDATE 11/10/11
Right then, being messing with a few bits over the last week, First thing was to sort the headlights out, the had faded quite bad, very common on clios, so i set about correcting them, so off i went armed with wet and dry paper, Polish, machine polisher on the end of the drill and a few ther bits.
Headlights were in a bad state!

    After some wet and dry

Then after polishing with the bit on the end of the drill and some Auto Glym super resin polish!

Looks so much better on the car now!
Next was to remove the front tints as i felt real enclosed and abit to dark, so off they came and a few hours later with some intensive tar remover it was done, also fitted my wind deflectors too

More updates soon as i have a new Headunit aswell now
    cheers.

really good thread this, was a bit touch and go to begin with but really pulled it back, much prefer the phase 1 172's to the more common phase 2's. prefer a softer front end

    job well done chap

Re: The Black clio Project, From Day 1. now onto 225 power.

    UPDATE 12/01/2012

I should really keep upto date with this but i keep forgetting, right the car has been running really well lately, but due to the rubbish weather i havnt had much time to drive her. so i did a few bit which were really annoying me.

As i run a digidash now it was time to modify the dash surround to suit my needs, i got rid of the gauge pod on the A pillar as it was to in your face. so a bit fo plasic and filler later we have this.

Gave it a quick layer of paint, needs abit more work but just wanted to see how it looked in the car.

Also had to go to renault and get a rear brake kit full of washers bolts and clips as mine decided to throw a wobbly and disappear.

Next was to sort the new headunit out, so had a play with it.

The bumper had tons fo glue, tar and crap on it as seen

Half an hour later we had this

Also added a few stickers. as it speaks the truth

Last saturday, i renewed the insurance, with EVERYTHING DECLARED! which i had an amazing price on, and tomorrow after work i plan to get a massive list of stuff to do before the shows start in march.

    cheers all

Re: The Black clio Project, From Day 1. now onto 225 power.

    UPDATE 4/3/2012

Right then due to work and the rubbish weather last month i didnt really have much time to do anything on the car, but now that has all changed. Few weeks ago i started ordering bits and bobs to get the car ready for this year

    first list of thing was:
    Rear number plate lights
    10w60 oil
    new oil filter
    battery box
    braided fuel line

So then things started to arrive:

Also 2metres of braided line arrived, over christmas i hadnt really used the car, but the fuelines had leaked quite badly and took all the paint off in the rear of the car, so i made up some new lines and connectors.

Also i test fitted the battery box, and result, not bad for ebay!

The rear of the car was state, and well made me feel sick! i dont do messyness this it how it looked.

So fuel lines off to fit and reroute the new ones, i tidied the loom up for the fuel sender and both fuel pumps. and gave the floor a lick of paint.

After this i got the car in the air gave it a well deserved oil and filter change, then adjusted the coilovers and raised, yes raised it another 20mm

And well i just had to buy one of these, i have wanted to get into detailing for ages and well...

Still lots left to do before fast show on the 25th, mainly tidying the engine bay up abit more, gonna get the map checked and maybe tweaked a little, get it on the rollers, Also got a new steering wheel to fit and need to decide which way im gonna go with the interior. but for now thats all.

    cheers
