    ka zetec conversion

ok, its not a renault, but here is one of my 'sideline' projects to keep the missus happy

only started it on friday, and been working on it in the evenings, still alot to do

    sportka bumpers trial fit...

then after we finished laughing at the manifold, time to get to work

one ****e 1.3 ready for the bin

quick clean of the bay before we get the new engine in..

quick clean and paint of the 'box

    then its zetec time....

    kinda fits

chopped slam panel, fits much better now

    trial fit of engine loom

engine now on 2/3 mounts, awaiting a custom engine mount

    rad and downpipe

its now monday night, not bad for 4 evenings work, but alot more to come!

Nice work! At the last Oulton Park track day there was a Zetec powered KA using a 2.0L Mondeo engine. It was totally standard looking but went like the clappers!

Big engines in small cars you can't beat it. I once put a tuned 2.0ltr duratec in a mk4 escort cab with a fiesta turbo gearbox. Was utter bonkers, with rev range increased to 7,500rpm it could achieve 105mph in third gear and fourth was scary. Good luck mate, i think the wiring on the later fords so much easy with plugs for engine looms being easly modified.

    Re: ka zetec conversion

it runs! after 2 days of cutting and splicingtrying to run a piggback zetec ecu off the ka one, we gave up, then accidently realised the zetec loom plugged straight into the KA engine loom with a bit of tweaking, so it now runs on a 1.3 KA ecu... next on list is to get the ECU flashed to a 1.8 BLOB ecu so it'll work with the immobiliser but have the fueling table etc for a zetec

    few more progress shots

how i'm gonna mount the engine with a simple gusseted L bracket welded and braced on inner wing... std escort engine mount FTW

in the bay all lined up

    bonnet still shuts too!

just waiting for my engineer mate to finish the mount, then its onto the cooling system headache... may end up with a custom rad

i hate the KA with a passion, but its her 1st car and she wont get rid, even after it got written off muggins here had to repair/vic/etc to put it back on the road

the zetec is my influence, on the condition that i do all the work and fund it.... fail

nearly there, bumpers in paint, longer studs fitted so can run the 20mm spacers it needs for the wheels, just need to paint new wheels n get tyres, connect up the spray and make an exhaust...
    pics...
