making up an exhaust

still some life in my exhaust (volvo t5r),but was thinking of cat back home build,few lengths and bends to be determined,but the oe silencer is mega size,what do i do to suss up a replacement silencer...and how will it affect sound etc??..small louder?,bigger quieter??

it can depend on who made the silencer . iv got 2 centre sections for the 5 ,one oe an one is a paten part , the paten one is louder. that's the one i made my side exit with look the same but baffles are different
