    R5 diesel radiator/external oil cooler

Hi everyone. I'm going to be adding an external oil cooler in the near future and I'm wondering what size to go for, any suggestions? The cars used on track a few times a year and also on the road.

Also, at the same time I was going to add the R5 diesel radiator to do away with the built in oil cooler and to save a bit of space. Is the diesel rad o.k. for track use? does it cool well enough? and where is the best place to obtain one? Ive looked on ECP's website and found this:

Is this the rad I need?

R5/extra 1.6 diesel rad works fine mate, keeps my van at decent temps on track with my intercooler covering most of it!

I got mine nos valeo off ebay £35, keep an eye out as they come up occasionally. About £130 new i think

Edit, the one you want has the outlets in the same place as the gtt rad, the one pictured is incorrect.

I have a diesel rad in my car. It is 8cm wider than the std GT rad. So you have to have a FMIC. I also have a 13 row Mocal oil cooler with thermostat in the sandwich plate. But for me it was overcooling the oil all the time. I think a 10 row cooler would be enough.
No I have an oil-water heat exchanger on my sandwichplate from a Megane 2.0 16V and changed the thermostat in the sendwichplate from 80 to 90 degrees now my oil temp is perfect. Always between 90-100 degrees.

I was under the impression the diesel radiator was narrower than the GTT unit as it has no oil cooler? I thought it was slightly thicker though?

No mate, it is 8cm wider and the same thick. That's why it works great in my car.

    Cheers for the info Jim

P.s rather than me buying a new radiator, is it possible to simply plug the holes for the oil cooler on the standard radiator?

no need to plug the holes as you have no oil running through it. i have a diesel rad hardly used with a few bent fins up for grabs if your interested tho.

    Fair point!

How much are you after for the radiator? Does it need a re-core?
