    Cossie L8 / P8 – 8 injector chip search

I’m hoping somebody will be able to help me find a Cossie IAW ecu chip or bin file - specifically for the L8 / P8 generation ecu fitted with the 8 injector conversion - Pectel / Colins style +4 injector driver daughter board. I’m not worried what the mapping is, as this will be changed for my application. I would also be interested on getting my hands on the launch control and anti-lag code versions as well if about or simply file copies?

I know I’m starting at the wrong end of the project but keeps the brain amused. I have the ecu hardware, but not the firmware, and it’s looking for a project, and I have one in mind… I’m in the process of building a long rod, over bored 86.4mm from 84, Fiat / Lancia 16V turbo hybrid motor – 8V bottom end and ported 16V head for a bit of fun. Keeping it IAW controlled would be nice and use the 8 injector setup would be better than liquid chocolate

Anything out there would be great to hear.

Does that l8-p8 stuff from the 4x4 saff and escort offer fully sequential injector control? I know motorsport developments offer als and launch control for these as probabley does ahmed bayjoo, getting them for free might be another thing though

the IAW is fully sequential in all forms, albeit not so good if you look at the control loop in the software. But yes you are right Ahmed et al, I wasn't really after buying a map, more liberating the firmware code I have loads for the 4 injector setup, but I have a L8 with the 8 injector expansion card and didn't get a chip at the time ... otherwise I would be well on my way. I have P8 ecus, so if the appropriate chip is kicking about I would graft the board into the later 68HC11 based ecu if need be

ive got l8 pectel version 3 in mine, with the msd anti lag/launch control

you wont get a free version anywhere.
and the antilag/lc isnt just a chip, its another board you add to the ecu.
it plugs into where the std chip goes and then the msd chip goes into that.
lso the antilag board and chip are encrypted and paired so will only work together.

sorry mate but your best bet if you want the AL is to email msd with your plans.
you might be able to buy a 2nd hand board and then send them a copy of your map and ask them to put it onto 1 of thier encrypted chips?

also very much doubt youll find any 8 injector chips knocking around. but i can ask for you.

Thanks Stu for the info. I've not seen any of the AL implementations so didn't know. The encryption, yes good point, albeit if you have the card and the matching chip you can go straight ahead and read it out to get to the firmware data, not that it would be a great deal of use potentially depending the function of the daughter card. The other options was talk to RP Lap and get the full software setup, and make it far more user friendly than having to mess with emulation and XDF files for instance.

If there is a 8 injector chip out there then I would be interest in buying it even as a copy however.

you do get the ecu for sale with the antilag boards come up for sale 2nd hand sometimes, but i still dont know if you will be able to read/change the chip. i think the files are all password protected.

    Re: Cossie L8 / P8 – 8 injector chip search

The MPU can only read / write data to a specified address, the code in the P8 is read into RAM, but the L8 is accessed from ROM, which would be from the daughter card. The daughter cards plug straight into the old EPROM socket, and obtain the I/O from there, sometime some external timing signals from the injector timing PAL, but usually not much else. Hence, at the MPU / EPROM socket the data cannot be encrypted or the MPU will fail to execute it correctly. It would be good to have a look however, and it would be quite quick to tell. The IAW is a nice easy MPU implementation, except all the critical timing functions are taken care in the proprietary PAL chip along side the MPU.

    It’s all brain food

I've also got a program on my laptop that can read the ecu, can't adjust anything, just reads sensors and stuff.
