Re: My White 5 gt turbo project

    Its now officially mot'd!

    Only advisorys was
oil leak from sump (think the flywheel side half moon seal moved when the sump went up)
    Antiroll bar bushes cracking
Slight play in steering rack internals

Had to slow the idle speed down and the co was 2.10 not to bad considering it was set by ear

now to fix an overboost issue and oil leak

Can someone please help me sort these out as i'm boosting far too high 20psi easily and dont wanna pop another engine

carb base to t-peice too bov and aei unit

    Ktec carb top ports

    How its plumbed atm

Should this pipe go on this port?

Should this pipe fit to this port?

Also its made official, only 2 weeks till respray so lots of prep work to do

Your last pic that pipe with the one way valve and metal pipe going to turbo elbow should go to the other port on the carb and it goes to the back port on the actuator

I am 100% sure Adam, been a while since I have seen or worked on an OE stlye setup

    https://www.rtoc.org/boards/album.php...pictureid=3503

You could always do the boost cup mod and let the rear port on the actuator go to air like we did on JRP's 5

    Run the cup mod matey

Loop the 2 outputs on the ktec carb top to each other,
bolt in rear of turbo elbow,
pipe from carb base to front port on actuator,
2nd port on actuator just goes to atmosphere,

Re: My White 5 gt turbo project

new oil return pipe is here so i can remove someones bodge of copper pipe, just need to source some hoses for it as everywhere seems to want £25 each for them

And since its raining and tommy doesnt like the rain

So he is having his sump pan removed and the half moon seals changed in hope to fix the oil leak,
if it dont fix it then it seems its a rear main seal gone.... BAD times

Does anyone know if the top and bottom oil return hoses are the same or different? and what size bore pipe?

well the car is pretty much fully prepped and whilst my bro was finishing off the passenger door shut....
    I started to play

No grill at the moment as my old one is beyond repair so a new one is coming when i can afford it

    Standard bonnet

Bad boy louvered bonnet unknown origin?

Come to the conclusion that it wont be used ever as,
    1. the bonnet needs that much repair work i have no energy left to do it
    2. it doesn't suit the car imo
    3. my brother hates it and thus wont paint it for me

can you return the vented bonnet to OE by cutting off the eyebrows? could be worth doing in your spare time once the cars done

So after a lovely 530 wake up after my brother had attacked me with a torch in my eyes and slapping my head to wake me

We finished the masking then gave it a final look over and quick prep of some areas

    Primered

Final coat - renault glacier white - also the same as ford cosworth white

its not been flatted and polished yet so still a bit "factory finish" here and there but that'll all be done in a few weeks at home

8 o'clock start tomorrow morning reftting everything ready for the drive home where all the trims will get fitted on and cleaned etc

We did want to stonechip the bottom lip of the front bumper so it didn't get any stonechip damage.
But we completely forgot about it as we was amazed how nicely the paint went on. Will need a bonnet and bumper bra made up me thinks now to protect it

He's back home after a little trip round to see my cousins and they love it

Gave them a kick up the arse to get their tungsten one back on the road

Still a few trims to fit etc but the most has been done and we can have a rest for a week

BUT its not all good news! Like a true renault 5 it has a new problem.......

Its clutch has decided that with the newly rebuilt engine and all the new power plus a spirited drive home, the clutch didn't like it and started to slip on full throttle after 3k

    So new clutch time yay....

Re: My White 5 gt turbo project

Gearbox is out with the engine in situ.
Its tight but not hard as i've not sworn at it yet this morning.

Big thanks to mike at gt turbo spares for the uprated clutch 8)

Bonnet and bumper off. Covers on and an no zips on trousers rule set down we like the paint work unscratched

    Gearbox removal

Found my persistant oil leak - rear main oil seal wrong way round

Found a possibly cause to my funny vibration at 50mph

Yup thats a hole in the diff and some pretty deep grooves,
The shaft bearings looks fine and theres no pieces floating in the other half of the diff...
On the hunt for a new one might try scrappys tomorrow
If no luck then i'll put it all back in and buy one from renault and do it in situ with the shaft out

So the list of things found wrong:
No roll pin in o/s driveshaft
Rear main oil seal fitted wrong way round causing my oil leak thats gone over the flywheel and clutch
Gearbox n/s diff section has a hole in it and deep grooves

The bro did some cleaning while i removed the gearbox

Now to de-grease and repaint the box silver casing and black end cover like it should be

Re: My White 5 gt turbo project

    Right way round now

Went on the hunt for a new diff gear and went to the local volvo scrappy as it was the only one open today

there is a few good 440 turbos in here hiding

Rolled over a 440 1.8 no turbo and got to work

    Oh yeah no more holes

found this awesome idea on the same gearbox, Return spring on the gearbox rather than the linkage. so far it seems to work fine

    Gearbox in

Got a mega headache so come in for a rest and tablets so this is as far as i got yesterday afternoon

Re: My White 5 gt turbo project

    finished off today

Bailey dump valve removed after finding it was leaking when we was cleaning it

Then we found out a knocking noise from the drivers front wheel when pulling it in and out at the top

Found both top mount bolts loose enough to move
Tried undoing one and it snapped
So off with the drivers strut which turns out to be koni adjustables then ground off the captive nut and rewelded a new nut to the bracket
Refitted it and took out the passenger sides and copper greased them up for good measure and jobs a gooden

Then we decided to put the strut brace on since "fingers crossed/touch wood" all the engine work is done

We then cleaned up the earths on the front of the car and put the bumper and bonnet back on

Took it for a spin up to tesco and treated the car to a full tank of 99 octane, then popped round to halfords for a new clio rear wiper blade and some satin black so we can paint the wiper arms next

Feels good being able to give it full throttle in any gear without having to worry of it slipping anymore

and i love the green box volvo clutch ok its a bit grabby but its not really that hard on the pedal, i've driven worse clutchs in the past

    Small update

Radio wiring has been fixed after some time with continuity tests and finding lives and earths
Radio is a classic kenwood cassette headunit given for free by a friend as i Didn't want anything fancy to stand out like a swore thumb

Also my new grill from renault for a bargain price

Brother will be painting the grill sometime this week for me.
In the meantime he has a Mini A series engine block i need to start building into a turbo block

Re: My White 5 gt turbo project

    Time to update

Grill painted and fitted on, it finally has a sexy looking face rather than a black hole

Then plugged the aem uego on

    Majorly lean as boost hits
So ordered a new fpr from renault

Which didn't fix it.. DOH! oh well its another shiney part fitted

    So onto the lean issue
Tried a few things like accel pump adjustment - no difference
Whilst doing a power run down the road the accelerator cable fell out the linkage - fixed on roadside
Found a nice major oil leak from the rocker going onto the exhaust making a bit of smoke

So after that i got moody...got home and put the car in the garage (Its favorite place)
Took off the strut brace, rocker cover and carb
    Fixed the rocker cover leak

And proceeded to strip down the carb + a good spare on in the garage that hasnt been used for a while

And found this little bugger was semi blocked

So swapped it out for a good spare, and reset the accel pump with a 5mm drill bit

Then i thought lets go for a bar of boost, so swapped the ac jet for a 1mm and drilled the 2nd stage to a 1.2mm and fitted everything back together.

Just need to get a new fuel filter and bleed the coolant and see what we have tomorrow on the aem... fingers crossed at 10psi it overfuels enough for me to up the boost a little to 14 psi

    looking good mate

how much was your fpr if you dont mind me asking? hey id imagine you would be able run a tad more than 14psi if you set your carb up with 1.2mm 2nd stage and 1mm a/c

Re: My White 5 gt turbo project

i'm not to sure on the decals, it was always my plan untill the bumpers got smoothed now i'm not sure if it will suit it

orange lights hmmmm might have to swap with someone at national day see what it looks like, since i need a new clear one anyway as the locating lug is broken off so it sits wonky

if someone could photoshop the decals on so i could get an idea of how it looks that would be great
